hypertension treatments

hi everyone, I’ve been diagnosed with moderate hypertension and have tried numerous drugs from all the different categories available to bring my BP down to into the normal range. My system is very sensitive to the side effects of prescription medication and while the drugs all seem to work for me these side effects are not something I want to live with for the rest of my life. I was also diagnosed with hypothyroidism 21 years ago and am taking medication (synthroid) to manage this condition as well.

Has anyone tried and had success with any natural remedies/supplements to successfully treat hypertension? I’ve researched beetroot juice and have learned about it having BP lowering properties, will be giving it a try. Has anyone else tried or had success with beetroot juice or beetroot supplements?

As you say just give beetroot juice a try and find out if it works for you. You are unlikely to do yourself any harm unless perhaps you take it in excessive amounts. I love beetroot but can't understand why people serve it with vinegar which is very popular here in the UK, since it completely ruins the taste.

thanks for your comments, so far the beetroot juice is helping, fingers crossed it continues to work. I agree about the vinegar served with beets, butter salt and pepper is all that’s needed in my humble opinion 😂

three suggestions for you Lakefletcher. The first you know already and the doc will already have suggested all this - diet and lifestyle - but it does warrant mentioning again.

Secondly, the website to consult is Blood Pressure UK, the specialist charity.

Thirdly, the forum on Health Unlocked that you might want to go to is on hypertension rather than this one.

Thanks you for your reply, yes diet, lifestyle and proper exercise are important unfortunately that hasn’t helped in my situation. I’m new to health unlocked and am learning my way around the site …..thanks for your third suggestion.

I have the same sentivity issues to the Hypertension drugs as you and have tried everything. I would suggest that you work out the root cause of your Hypertension. Mine is mostly stress related and I am still in the process of trying to change my mindset and how I handle stress. I found meditation (mindful meditation) helpful. Also making sure that my electrolytes and vitamins are in balance as stress depletes these.

Pomegranate juice is another thing that may help as well as Hibiscus tea ( if you are ok with it). Also changing diet to a 'clean' unprocessed diet and avoiding allergens helps. I also found that German Chamomile helps a lot.

thank you Purple Roo, all good suggestions. I’ve just started trying freeze dried beetroot juice, 1 cup in the A. M. and another before dinner….it seems to be working…..so far. Stress definitely exasperates high B P and is damaging to the adrenals so you’re on the right path, good luck with your journey and thanks for your input.

Hiya, I found that a magnesium supplement dropped my BP 10 points or so, but like others have said life style plays a huge part.

The root cause of my uncontrolled BP needed surgery which has finally taken place. My BP is now normal!

Thanks for your input Ben19731, happy you are feeling better. I would love to know the root cause of my high BP, still waiting to see a cardiologist. I do take multiple supplements all targeting heart and artery health of which magnesium is one and my diet is heart healthy as well …..the quest continues. :)
