Hi anyone else having severe stomach bloating causing heart palpitations? In hospital briefly in August with AF since then nerves gone to pieces getting bad stomach bloating every day (as many as 50-60 big belches/burps) causes heart palpitations-stressed anxious it will go to full blown AF & end up back in hospital with Covid risks! Scared to go to bed as often wake up with rapid heart with palpitations plus huge bloating. Tried Wind-eze with Simethicone which helps. Also tried slow breathing. No confidence now to even go for a short walk due to stress causing palpitations etc. Been stressful all my life-had AF 15 yrs ago took ages to get over it worrying about recurrence etc. No chest pain, breathlessness or acid reflux etc. think stress just makes everything 1000 times worse-vicious circle! Has anyone any helpful suggestions please as I feel like a prisoner in my own body and in my own home!. Currently on 1.25mg Bisoprolol & 60mg Edoxaban(blood thinner) Thank you

Try different ways to combat it. One thing that worked with me is having main meal at lunch time and just a small bowl of soup with 2 small slices of bread about 6 p.m. made sleeping much more comfortable without the bloating. Im sure you will have other suggestions. One will work.

Hi thanks for your suggestion. I do actually have my main meal at lunch time, usually porridge for breakfast and light meal around 4.00-5.00pm. My problem is & always has been instant stress/palps just by thinking about an appointment or a problem, in fact just about anything so I know that in my case 'fight or flight' is regularly occurring each day which is not good. I am intelligent enough to know that worrying/stressing is futile & harmful but for the life of me I have always been unable to switch it off as it has long-since been a reflex action. There are often times during each day when I feel fine then suddenly out of the blue 'bump bump bump' my heart skips a beat or two then I know that gas is no doubt building up in my stomach and the belching begins. My G.P. has just prescribed some Omeprazole 20mg to try even though I have explained that I never get acid reflux or stomach pain (the enclosed leaflet says not suitable if taking blood thinners or immuno-suppressants like Methotrexate-both of which I am taking so??) I still fundamentally feel that my main problem is the stress/anxiety which is exacerbated by me becoming hyper-stressed during palpitations/heart racing-bumping/belching sessions -fearing about to go into full A.F. again and end up back in hospital - hopeless case!! Over the years I have seen psychiatrists, clinical psychologists, C.B.T. counsellors in fact you name it I've been there & tried it (even hypnosis, relaxation techniques etc etc.) During a routine ECG some 15 years ago it was discovered that I had a slight leak from a mitral valve and again during an echocardiogram last year the same leak was still apparent but still considered 'mild' though I do understand that regurgitation via a leaking mitral valve can trigger AF-I have been waiting for a further Echo-scan for over two months now but Covid has naturally caused a delay. I recently completed a 7 day blood pressure monitoring diary (28 individual checks) and my average B.P. was 117/57 and average pulse 54 average weight 61 kilos. I also realise that 'distraction-therapy' is a useful tool however, self-isolation for month after month recently hasn't helped one bit! Anyway, having got all of that off my chest so to speak - thank you for your interest & suggestion. I wish you well for the future.Micron 5

Have you ever thought of writing a book? The title could be My Fight With Bloating. It could be a best seller as you have tried just about everything known to man. But you know what the cause is. So I am serious! Start writing. Start at the beginning of the problem and let it run where it needs to. So stop fighting it! I did this myself to break a different issue but it worked and I've got the book to prove it but only my personal copy. One other thing , cut out white bread. I did that too.

Hi there I certainly know about the fear it all brings on. I don’t have AF but ectopic beats triggered only which bloating and wind build up. Struggled for years but finally found a way to manage. I fast for 48 hours every 2 weeks then only eat ‘clean’ unprocessed food. I avoid bread at all costs and it gives me a little peace. Keep going better days are ahead x
