Heart palpitation after eating

Hello all,

I am 28 year old male and having heart palpitation and fast rate only after eating meal. I have tried high carbs, low carbs diet but nothing is working to ease it down.

My normal resting heart rate is in 70s but as soon as I eat my meal it goes to 105-110 with heavy palpitation for constant 2 hours and then comeback to normal.

I went to emergency, they did an ecg, kidney function, liver function and thyroid function and everything came back normal except heart rate was high.

P.s I went abroad and had some gastric problem their and since coming back I have developed this issue.

Can some one explain what could be the cause of this?

Hello and welcome to the forum! Does this occur after every single meal?

Yes every single meal.

I get palpitations from MSG and with larger intakes also nausea and vomiting. Other triggers can be alcohol, caffeine, and rich and spicy foods. You need to keep chasing your GP but it is worth having food sensitivity testing in case you have developed multiple intolerances. Good luck in finding the cause.

Hope you haven't picked up a virus or anything as you mentioned that you had gastric problems when abroad.

Keep going back to your GP as that is not normal ending up with palpitations like that after meals. That must be so scary and uncomfortable. Persevere and make sure they get to the bottom of this .... my eldest Son goes abroad and i would be greatly concerned....

Shane, check Dr Sanjay Gupta's videos on Youtube about the gastrocardiac link. The heart and the gut interact via the vagus nerve, and possibly also due to their close proximity. I use to get a lot of ectopics together with burping and sensitivity to what I eat, but started taking Ranitidine 9 months ago and have had virtually no problems since. Hi, I have paf which gives me palpitations. It’s always worst when eating. This is because your heart has to work harder when you’re eating. Maybe you need to be checked for Atrial Fibrillation

I have atrial fibrillation but no problem when I am eating.

I too have recently started to have palpitations after eating, I had a pacemaker fitted last year for heart block. I will ask about this when I’m next in for my appointment

I have this too, very uncomfortable for a few hours after eating a minimal evening meal. I have had this for over 20 years, I would go out to eat with my family and feel so uncomfortable with palpitations. I try to eat small and often. I have Svt, mitral valve prolapse and will be 73 in April. Now I am aware that a lot of people suffer this and try to pace myself eating, before, I did not know why I was like this until I joined this forum.
