Remember it is normal to feel anxious and maybe vulnerable after being diagnosed with a heart condition. You have also had an invasive procedure. You may not have stitches as often happens with an operation but your arteries and heart have been messed about with.

I remember feeling very tired with numerous twinges and aches and pains following a heart attack and stents 2 years ago. It's very early days for you so go easy on yourself, it does get better. Maybe browse the posts on this board. You can enter a key word in the search field top right on for example: stents, cardio rehab and you will find lots of information. Also check out the attached link nhs.uk/conditions/coronary-...

If you have just been put on a lot of medications they maybe causing some side effects such as tiredness until you get used to them. You can also speak to BHF specialist Nurse if you just want to talk or adk some questions, their number is 0300 330 3311

Don't lift anything heavy for a few weeks but keep generally active building up activity initially by walking. Let us know how you get on.

Many thanks appreciated like you say it’s small steps I’ve been out for two small walks on my own just down the road and back felt ok it’s worse when you’re sat alone and nothing to do your mind goes into overdrive but doctor was pleased with the blood flow so maybe I’m actually lucky they caught it early

Hi Pammy

Just pointing out we are all different, what is OK for yourself may not be to good for others that's all I was pointing out. Not being Critical

Remember the reason for having a stent fitted, to increase blood flow to your heart, the heart is a very strong muscle and and needs exercise to build back its strength.Start off with short walks and gradually build up, you perhaps can't go to rehab or gyms due to covid but take it on yourself to find information on exercise programmes which helped me greatly in my recovery, plenty of helpful advice on here, keep positive and good luck, you'll get through this.

Many thanks I’ve been out for a couple of walks already but it’s always the uncertainty I only went in for a routine Angiogram and came out with a stent but it’s one day at a time attitude 🙏🙏

Yes I was very tired for first two weeks or so, sleeping for long periods in the afternoon. I would echo what Nathan has said above, it’s excellent advice. Take it easy for first wee while, it’s very easy to overdo things.

Psychologically my mind went into overdrive at every little twitch I felt afterwards. That too got better in time.

I had my single stent fitted March 2011. Earlier this year I took up running during lockdown. Aged 62 I now run 20-25km each week and loving it.

All the best.

Many thanks I never thought of running for a while but I miss my walking my long distance I’m doing the Mighty Hike next year 26 miles in Cumbria for Macmillan Cancer so hopefully I will be able to do that

Hi,

I’m 47 and now 4 months post heart attack and sudden cardiac arrest, both in the ambulance and hospital. I was fortunate that day, had somebody looking out for me. Managed to get away with only 1 stent too, but like you I was anxious about every twinge. Probably more so for me as I had no signs of what was going on, in fact I was out cycling at the time 🤷‍♂️

Anyway, after completing cardiac rehab, I started back at the gym in September and started with 1 visit per week, just doing light exercise and adhering to the advice given to me.

Now I’m doing 3 visits, well was prior to lockdown part deux, per week, and on cardio classes that last 45 minutes each.

So it does get better, I walk around like a tube of smarties now with all the meds, but I have decided not to let it get me down and I see what happened to me as a challenge.

I know that approach isn’t right for everybody, but it works for me and everyone is different. My ‘blip’ as I call it was completely out of the blue as I was in the gym 6 days per week before lockdown in March, and cycling 100 miles during lockdown, until 27 June.

You will get used to those little is it isn’t it and that will allow to overcome your anxiety, but most of all you got this 👍💪

Have a great day

Daz

MI HA and 2 stents were 2 years ago now but I clearly remember being terrified to go out on my own and aslo having a lot of side effects from tablets from a feeling I couldn't get my breath to actually having hallucinations hen feeling too tired to even get out of he chair. All caused by tablets that needed tweaking or swapping. Scared of every ache or twinge, constantly checking my BP. It's all perfectly normal and will get easier. Keep exercise gentle for a few weeks. Cadiac rehab should get in touch soon; it will be by phone but hey are there to answer any questions. You've had a huge shock. It will get easier.

Hello I also had a stent inserted two months ago and exactly like you was so worried about every pain and twinge. I definitely experienced what the call settling in pain where the artery stretches to accommodate the stents. I’m pleased to tell you that for the last two weeks I’ve had no pain at all so please don’t worry. I also posted on this forum and the lovely people on here were very quick to reassure me. Good luck x

Hello, I had 2 stents fitted 6 months ago and I am getting she's and pains in the chest. When this happens I take one Paracetemol and that solves the problem. I also suffer sometimes from indigestion/reflux aches and pains. The specialist suggested I take Gaviscon which has done the trick.

I had 3 stents put in on the same day as you, 30th oct. And I too have had the odd twinge. So much so that i made my husband drive me back to hospital a few days ago to run another ECG🙈. Luckily it all came clear and as a result i am learning to just live with the twinges. Wishing you a speedy recovery. We can do this💪
