How do you cope with meds when you have heart and kidney failure?

3 weeks ago I felt I was doing quite well and stable but in an effort to give my kidneys a chance hf nurses halved my dose of Spironolactone. The result was the return of breathlessness. I was back to sleeping in my chair and feeling so disappointed. Night times are always the worst. Friday I phoned the nurses and explained how unwell I was so they put the Spironolactone back to where it was. So in just 3 days my symptoms are improving and though I'm still breathless its bearable. But my feet continue to plague me and turn yellow and the pain round my diaphragm is back. Ive had ultrasound but no results in 3 weeks so don't know what situation is but im stage 4 hovering on border with stage 3. Anyone else experiencing this dilemma please?

Hello

I was swapped from Spironolactone to Furosemide which worked better for me as a Diuretic. Are you taking Spironolactone as a Diuretic ??

It does make it hard work when you are feeling better then have a set back I hope you sort it soon,

Hands face space to stay safe.

Im taking Bumetanide as a diuretic but of course other heart meds also have that effect. I was on Furusamide and at the highest dose when suddenly it stopped functioning. So I changed to Bumetanide then realised that my kidney function was atv25%. So I'm in a quandary. It helps to hear from anyone one step ahead of me and what happened to help me see possibilities.

Hi There

What dosage did you take of spironolactone.I am on 25mg on it along with furosemide been prescribed these for past 6 yrs for heart failure.I get the twice yearly blood tests and so far all good with kidneys.Sorry to hear about your breathlessness.I had that when i first was diagnosed with HF and had to sleep with lots of pillows, now i only need one.Take care and hope you start to feel better

I take 25mg Spironolactone but it was halfed 3 weeks ago because my kidney function was at stage 4. I feel better now im back to a whole tablet. I take 5 heart tablets plus some for other things. But the Furusamide stopped working and Bumetanide works but I get times when the bladder won't empty and that is a problem. I dont know how it will be sorted.
