Hi, a quick reply, I wouldn't think so. (not a dr!!) A lot of people have regurgitation (a leak), think of it as a tap dripping, its just that the valve doesn't seal completely. I am sure your GP will keep an eye on it and maybe perscribe beta blockers or ace inhibitors to reduce the pressure on your heart, long story short and noddy answer. HTH

Thank you for quick response. Can’t take beta blockers as low bp. thanks for reassurance

Hello and welcome to the forum! As it is mild it would usually be monitored annually to see if things are worsening. Intervention is generally indictated if the EF (ejection fraction) falls below 50% or there is severe left ventricular dilatation because of extra strain on the heart.

Beta blockers have been mentioned in the previous response. In some cases the minimum dose of a beta blocker can help the heart with little effect on BP, e.g. Bisoprolol 1.25mg, but this will vary between individuals.

Hi. I was diagnosed with mild regurgitation at 16 and was monitored yearly. I was told at the time that I may need an operation eventually but it just depended on if or how quickly the valve deteriorated. I was told to get on with my life and not to worry about it. There only concern would be if I got pregnant and they would need to monitor me more closely, so I didn’t bother! 🤪It took until I was 52 to get to the point where I needed surgery.

I’m assuming they are going to monitor you, so try to put any thoughts of an op to the back of your mind. They won’t operate unless it gets severe.
