Healthy food: Has anyone got any advice... - British Heart Fou...
Healthy food
1. Buy Eatlean Tasty Cheese (8% fat as opposed to normal Cheddar of 33%) and do usual cheese and Branston Pickle, or tomato and lettuce etc etc sandwiches (wholemeal bread or rolls)
2. Buy Light mayonnaise (much less saturated fat than the normal version) and make egg mayonnaise baps.
3. chicken sandwiches
4. turkey and cranberry
5. Smoked salmon wholemeal baps (push the boat out with sliced hard boiled egg)
5. Coronation chicken sandwich - use light mayonaise as base will send you recipe if you need one.
6. Buy Tupperware type box and make up a salad and ring the changes through cheese, chicken, avocado, turkey, egg. Don;t forget the fork.
7. Buy vegetarian sausage rolls and cook them the night before and eat cold with a salad.
8. Cold pasta - choose your favourite sauce
Pieces of fruit for dessert. Giant Thermos of Tea.
Some brands/flavours of crisps are really low in saturated fat..... you have to study the labels......
Thank you for that more choice that I imagined great
Hummus with batons of celery, carrots and cucumber. Apple for pudding.
Make up a box of your favourite salad veg. With a tin of mackerel or sardines (the small ones with the ring pull opening).
Morning, I have to take pack up to work what I have found in aldi in there extra special range in the bread area are whole wheat and seed Pitts bread they are more like the thins but a lot more tasty and higher in fibre I fill them with salad and the chicken, tuna or sardines having them means I don’t use butter am getting plenty of greens and they taste good, I then take fruit to snack on my go to fruit this week is water melon. Also take giant cous cous salad as well this is more like pasta that the bird seed type again mix it with chicken or fish really filling and you can put what ever salad you want in with it i normal do cherry tomato cucumber peppers spring onion and and some cooked sweet potatoes with a bit of low fat salad dressing saves a fortune at them transport cafes as well l.
I’ll then take Greek yoghurt again with loads of fruit I get the frozen blueberries and large tub of Greek yoghurt or skyr and mix my own.
Also start day with overnight oats with extra flax and chia seeds to bulk it out don't need anything then till lunch time👍👍👍
If you fancy a hot meal as winter draws on (!) buy a food Thermos - they have really wide necks - and you can have hot stew, thick soups, lean mince with spuds, curries (take naan separately)...... make the gravy/sauce thicker than usual and you won;t slop it around the cab so much........
Waldorf salad (apple, grapes, celery, walnuts) but made with fat free yoghurt instead of mayo, with a small tin of mackerel or tuna in water, not oil. You could have some ham etc with it instead (I don't because I'm trying not to eat other mammals). Then 2 or 3 pieces of fruit. It's very filling, low fat and delicious. This is the lunch I have had most days for the last year and I've lost 54lbs, so far.
Sorry no suggestions on the lunches but I wondered if you have had to inform the DVLA about your HA? Only I have HF and they have revoked my HGV License. Is the criteria different for HA?
Hi, I have always liked the snacks but like you, post Stent, I have cut out so many foods and snack, between meals I uave dried nuts and dried fruit instead of the usual chocolate bar, and I like the Natural oat bars,ow in sugar and saturates. I knownits different on the move but I now often have a tin of sardines in olive oil, often put them on cold rice or pasta, makes a good snack but just depends on your tastes. Low fat flat bread thins or similar with Homus and carrot sticks. Just as some ideas, its a big change but worth it all!!
Snack on oatcakes, tasty, high in energy, low in fat, nice with cheese or just on there own
Glad to hear you are better and working there are food flasks and containers that keep food warm or hot if u wanted a change from eating cold meals
