Hi, I used Bio Oil following VATS surgery five years ago. You cannot see the two scars now. They now do a gel version which is very good, use as a body moisturiser after showering.

I used Bio Oil on burn scars and they disappeared. Now 11 weeks after a valve replacement and replacement piece of aorta. Intending to start using it on my scar after week 12. Although my scar has healed well it is still looking livid in places so I am waiting until I am sure it has healed fully. BTW, the surgeon told me nothing on it except warm water for " a very long while". I do gently massage it whilst in the shower every day.

Thanks for journey info and advice.

I found bio oil to be useless for a number of scars, but was recommended a gel by a nurse that has done a lot for my most recent surgical adventure.

Like Charlie_G, I found Bio Oil to be useless on my scars. Disappointing considering how expensive it was.

Tried Bio initially then vitamin E oil.

Preferred the viscosity of vitamin E and think that stimulating the circulation by local massaging helps the healing process.

Cosmetically, the scar tissue, two years on, is relativel flat and much improved, though heavily disguised by chest hair.

Possibly not so much an issue for blokes - more a membership badge for a club you would probably hope to avoid.

\Just starting Bio Oil as this is week 12 for me. Although, after reading your comment, thinking of asking my husband to make the kind of tea that puts hairs on your chest..... just waiting for some one to make a comment about the scar and I shall tell them I was clawed by a bear. So much more interesting than being a member of the zipper club.....

Seems like I have a while to make up my mind as I’m only 7 weeks into recovery with 12 weeks being the optimum time to start.

Thanks for your input.
