Are blood samples being allowed to be taken by nurses at our hospital, doctors practice for ongoing health conditions. Also are the dentists practices restricting there treatment.

Well I have a blood test tomorrow and so far it hasn’t been cancelled.

My husband has blood tests tomorrow and that's still going ahead, he got his text reminder today.

I would think with the dentist it would depend on what the appt was for. Best to ask your dentist, if it's just a routine hygiene appt then maybe not.

Oh! I've got an appointment for a B12 injection on 23rd April , but I've just checked on PatentAccess and it says I have no appointments - think a phone call is required

Hi

I was the same last week

Booked appointment on line then when I looked said I had no access to this service .

I phoned up and thay said GP would call me ,which she did .

Said the on line service had been suspended apart from ordering meds

Thanks for the reply.

This was booked by the surgery in January - don't know why it's vanished - will call them tomorrow

Thought I'd let you know, Kevin went for his blood test today and was told off for going, though they did take the bloods. Apparently the surgery are behind with cancellations, but he was told that he's to go home & self isolate for 12 weeks. All his other appts are cancelled so don't when we'll know the results of the bloods.

We're also assuming his ICD check up at Papworth will be cancelled, though as we have the home monitor that appt wouldn't be too pressing.

Thanks for that, judging by some of the other replies, there seems to be a lot of inconsistency.

I'll be due for a full blood test at the end of June, bit concerned if that doesn't happen as meds are leaving me with kidney problems - CKD stage 3, so ideally needs monitoring.

I'll give them a ring to see what is going on.

Meds are also giving Kevin kidney problems although mild at the moment. His full bloods have been cancelled which is also worrying due to his potassium issues!

Let us know how you get on.

Hi Lesley

Just had a chat with surgery, B12 injection is still on for 23rd April - it's just that PatentAccess isn't showing details.

Routine blood tests locally are off at the moment, might be back on by June - they just don't know at the moment. Bit of a worry, having being reassured by GP that the kidney issue was as result of meds and nothing to worry about - will be monitored - now might not be monitored!

Rightly or wrongly I have cancelled 2 blood test appointments in recent weeks. Exposing myself to hospital environment and not knowing if Mrs Bloodtaker may have the virus was enough for me to err on the side of safety !

I had a blood test last week and was told there are no plans, yet, to stop routine blood tests for ongoing conditions.

My daughter is a dental nurse. She received a text message last night saying that the practice is now closed. I believe there is provision for emergencies but this may not be at your usual surgery.

Had a blood test on Friday. Normally have them done fortnightly as a walk-in at the large hospital near us, spoke to GP for advice who basically said ‘hell, no!’ but that I did still need the test, and booked me a slot at the practice. Arrangements probably vary by area and practice, but with ours, if you’re high risk then you phone from the car park to say you’ve arrived, they then phone when you can go straight through to the appointment AND the waiting area is empty - they actually ask people to go outside to let high risk patients pass through without coming into contact (you couldn’t keep the 2m distance walking through the waiting area if you wanted to). I was met by the receptionist fully scrubbed up with mask and gloves, who proceeded to press the button on the sanitiser for me so I didn’t have to touch it, then walked me through whilst maintaining distance so that I didn’t even have to touch a door. Same on the way out. Got to say, it did feel a little bit like mission impossible, and bearing in mind my 12 yo and I are both one of the 1.5 million and we’ve been isolating in the house already for a week with the exception of the blood test, I’m looking to see if I do actually need a 6th and final blood test in two weeks’ time: if neither of us are showing symptoms in a fortnight, we’re ‘in the clear’ as long as we have no contact with anyone or leave the house.

In all honesty, if you’re high risk, I would be thinking very carefully about what is essential testing at this time and what can be postponed. If you’re not sure, contact your gp or consultant/team and ask the question.

Had a blood test Friday, INR, and another booked for a couple of weeks time, my INR has settled down yet! It was at the local GP as usual but was phoned in advance to check I didn't have a fever or cough.

I wouldn't risk not having it as I am sure I am more likely to suffer as a result of a too low INR level than contracting Covid-19 but my only issue is my mechanical heart valve.

You read my mind sandydunes, I’m due to have bloods done for my thyroid but as yet I haven’t had a letter to go to my GPs, even though I’m a month overdue 😕

GPs have closed down online appointments; you can still order prescriptions. OUrs are doing only emergency home visits and have special arrangements for anyone who needs to go to the surgery for blood tests. Otherwise it's phone only. Dentists are emergency only
