Heart med side affects

I’m currently, with my GP, experimenting with statins. Was on Atorvastatin 40mg for 3 years but wondered if I couldn’t feel better day to day. Symptoms were, muscle aches and pains and odd days of chronic fatigue. After stopping the med for 1 month I felt better than I had for a long time. Then switched to one 5mg rosuvastatin daily, symptoms returned. Same with symvastatin and a non statin, ezetimibe. Same result. Currently trialing the rosuvastatin, one every third day. However, have stopped that, as suspect the symptoms returning. I’m also on bisoprolol 1.25mg, (baby dose) and 2.5mg ramipril, also aspirin.

On discharge, 3 years ago with 2 stents fitted, my heart was in good nick with minimum damage. Put down to fast diagnosis and action by my GP and hospital staff.

My LDL has crashed to well below 2. Which we put down to the statins, so they clearly work. I’m reluctant to give them up completely for that reason.

Having a blood test followed by GP appointment in 3 weeks time, to see what’s happening with my LDL.

Uncertain where to go from here.

I’ve just returned from GP after 12 month post heart attack review. I had to stop Atorvastatin as it was damaging my liver. I had low cholesterol pre heart attack but they wanted it lower. I was referred to lipid clinic but 20 week waiting list. My cholesterol is now quite high and GP has asked me to try Rosuvastatin on alternate days. I’m still waiting for lipid clinic appointment. I’m so fed up I really want to pig out on fish and chips and I hate fish! I’ll just have to persevere. Have you been referred to the lipid clinic?

Lipid clinic not been mentioned. My liver checked out fine in last blood test.

Do you know your total cholesterol and the breakdown? Increasing statin dose follows the law of deminishing returns. So if everything in well it range 20mg Atorvastatin might work.
