Joke
Laughing, but I know ladies like these three and they don't understand why I don't like riding with them!
I hope I know when to retire from driving. My late mother (bless her) did in her early eighties as she said she was losing confidence in her own ability
I was actually relieved as I was starting to notice an increasing number of errors.
My father was on several medications and 24/7 oxygen (COPD and CHF) that began to have an affect on his driving after about six months or so. I was young and a little intimidated by him meaning I made excuses not to ride with him but didn't come out and say he was close to being a danger on the road.
Then one afternoon I had my son (then aged 2 years) in the car with us and Dad nearly pulled out in front of a lorry. 'That's it, Dad, pull over and give me the keys!' and he never drove again. He never complained, he never made me feel a bad daughter for taking his car keys. But afterwards he terrorised the neighbourhood with his mobility scooter!
I know a number of men who will not stop driving. It was an old guy who slammed into the back of us last year.
One small step for man - he's got arthritis!
A friend of our's told us, his 80 something Mother was told by the Doctor to stop driving on health grounds, our friend wrote to the DVLA and sent in her licence, then he sold her car and gave her the money and told her to treat herself and buy something nice, she promptly went out a bought another car. (She wasn't allowed to keep it).
