Hello. This probably sounds a strange question but i take 20mg of lisinopril a day but have been getting fluid on my chest and stomach on an evening so my cardiologist prescribed me 25mg spironolactone a day. The first day i took it i was fine but the second night i felt really dizzy and my sinuses were painful so as i suffer with sinusitis i assumed it was that (although i don't normally feel dizzy with it). I carried on taking tablets for a few days and the dizziness got worse and i started to wonder if it was the tablets. I stopped taking them for 4 days and my sinuses and the dizziness got better. I have started taking them again and low and behold my sinuses are really dry and painful again but not got the dizziness. Is it possible that Spironolactone affects sinuses? Has anyone else had this problem or is it just a coincidence that my sinuses have been bad both times i have started the tablets
Many thanks

I've never heard of spironolactone affecting sinuses before. However, if you're getting side effects do you have a heart nurse you can speak to? If not ask your GP if you can have alternative, I wouldn't just stop taking it though as its prescribed for a reason. My husband can't take spironolactone due to potassium issues, he was prescribed furosmide instead.
I'm noticing a build up of sinuses with spironolactone as well. Last year I had a major sinus issue that was so bad there was a lot of fluid behind my eye.
I changed my diet and I am now rechallenging myself with spironolactone.
The first day back on the medicine, I'm feeling fluid build up.
While it's not a "side effect" that your doctor may be aware of, you're not the only one who has experienced this.
Oh and Ace inhibitors are said to make your histamine more sensitive, so while this may not bother some people it could be a factor for you.
Thank you for your reply. Funnily enough i have just received a letter today that i was copied into from my cardiologist to my doctor about changing me to either Eplerenone or Furosemide. I tried a couple of times with the spironolactone but it just made my sinuses so bad. That is interesting about histamine as i have quite a few allergies and they usually affect my sinuses as well so the Ace inhibitors could be making it worse.
Good luck with the change of diet and spironolactone.
I had triple bypass 4 weeks ago . That's when the surgeon put me on spironolactone. My sinuses and throat have been extremely dry since the operation. Thi is giving me awful panic attacks. I've tried saline nose spray and tried sodium chloride breathing treatments. Nothing is working. I have to take lorazepam for the panic attacks. Thank the lord though, I have appointment with the surgeon in 3 days. And have app. With ear ,nose and throat dr in4 days. I do beleivethough that the spironolctone is the problem
