Constant dizziness :-(

I suffered a HA and cardiac arrest in August last year. Spent 7 weeks in hospital after a few complications after I'd had 2 stents inserted in the LAD. Since I came out of hospital I've been suffering constantly with a woozyness feeling and feel off balance all the time. Anyone else suffered the same?

Hi Bry14. It’s a common experience until you get used to your meds. If you’re on Ramipril and a Beta Blocker your blood pressure will be lower and your heart rate slower. A perfect recipe for wooziness, especially when you stand up quickly. Have you had your dose increased? If it’s a problem then I’d suggest an appointment with your doctor who might be able to reduce your dose so that you feel OK. Frequently when people complain of dizziness the doc will suggest giving it a bit longer to see how you feel. But it would be good to get it checked out as it might be something else.

Thanks Steve. It may just be a beta blocker side effect but reducing the dose didnt make a lot of difference, GP couldn't wait to get me back on a higher dosage. I guess I'll have to wait for the ENT findings and a chat with the cardiologist. So frustrating!

As Nathan suggests you could do worse than to keep a record of your BP and heart rate + what you’re doing to share with your cardio. GPs do try to ‘up-titrate’ to get your HR and BP as low as possible without falling over.

Hello Bry14 In view of your history (complications) I would be asking to be reviewed by your GP possibly Cardiologist. Like Steve says maybe just getting used to your meds. Have you taken your blood pressure? You could also ask to have your standing BP checked by Practice Nurse or Rehab Nurse if you are on a Rehab prog to see if there is a sudden drop in BP when getting up after sitting as this can cause dizziness. If you take a beta blocker and BP med and you take them together ask if you can take one on the evening and the other mornings. Totally unrelated but worth considering is having your ears checked as imbalance dizziness can be caused by inner ear problem

Thanks for your replies. I tried reducing the bisoprolol dose for a week as recommended by the GP but I felt it didnt make much difference. I've since been referred to ENT and they have begun the investigation into the reasons. Hoping to get more news next week. Apparently my hearing was fine!

My appointment with the cardiologist is next month so hopefully she'll have more answers.
