Hi, my mum suffered a heart attack stroke and cardiac arrest all in one day. she was recovering but after her flu injection she has deteriorated considerably, extensive edema where we took her to hospital several times and there after they put her on a drip only to be abused by staff in hospital. Since then she has had weeping legs but the spots are not only on her legs but on her back, does anyone else have the same issue? Also who can i contact to help her with her fears?

Thanks in advance

You should discuss it with her doctor.

Minnie, what a nasty experience for your Mum and for you, too.

Firstly, if you feel , as you say, that your Mum was “abused by staff in hospital, you should report this to PALS (the Patient Advisiry Service at the hospital.

Secondly, your Mum’s GP should be able to direct her to a special department that deals with a wide range of services, including psychological/psychiatric/counselling care for those in need. Providing this service is available in your Mum’s area, it might help with her fears.

Thanks it the hospital abuse was reported to PALS all they did was send the employees to another department, not sure why people work in care when they don't care. As for the GP's the care has just disintegrated and no one has time when you are over 70, you are treated like a paranoid mum.

If you feel you need more time when you arrange an appointment with a GP, you can always ask for a double appointment slot.

I asked for a double appt and got the third degree, and a 10 min slot

If it was me, I would ask for a meeting with the Practice Manager and ask the reason for being refused a double appointment.

If you don't think you are getting what you need from PALs you can complain to the NHS trust, the chief executive of the hospital and/or the cqc. If you had an issue with a particular nurse you can complain to the NMC or if you have an issue with a particular doctor you can complain to the bma

I am 84, my GP cares very much, the GP's in the surgery, whoever you see are marvellous. I feel extremely lucky.

Hi ,I am also a newbie ,I also had a heart attack and stroke in the same day.

I had 2 stents.

The stroke was caused by a piece of the blockage travelling to my brain .My experience is so difference to your mums, I have had the most amazing care ,I have been at Cardiac Rehab, Rehab, for 21 weeks due to complication ,I am intolerant to Aspirin

And the blood thinners made me bleed

And I bruised all the time, I have a sickle cell trait . It has been six months since all this happened and I am still unwell my breathing on exertion is poor ,I could have unstable Angina, I am waiting for a heart scan. I am sorry to hear your mum was treated like this, It's appalling.

Don't let them fob you off and carry on with your complaint.

I have had the best treatment, and sometimes I am overwhelmed .

I realise how lucky I am with my Doctors

Consultant and Cardiac nurses .

I'm sorry for you and your Mum, but I'm glad you are trying to sort out the issues you have with the hospital and hope you will be able to work things out.

Your Mum must be feeling very frightened maybe your hospital trust will be able to provide more care and understanding for her and help you all to cope better.

When I first had my chest pain and breathlessness I was rushed to hospital. It was all very frightening and when they told me that I have heart valve problems and left sided ventricular impairment, and problems with my heart rythum called lbbb (left ventricular branch block!) I didn't know what to think. I was very frightened, which is normal, I think.

Your mum and you have both had an awful shock. At a time when you need support from people and a system you should be able to trust, it sounds as though you have been badly let down. Others have given you advice about who to go to. You must make sure your complaints are heard.

Like Starz3, I have had brilliant treatment from wonderful staff at a time when i was feeling very vulnerable. Good luck.
