Prior to becoming ill last year I’d regularly swim a couple of miles at a time. Really struggled getting back in the pool as experienced some really bad symptoms- anyway got my act together this morning and just completed my first mile in a long time. I’m reasonably fit from running but had forgotten just how much stamina swimming takes. Anyway I’ve done it and would advise anyone putting off resuming old favourites to get back on it now!

Procrastinating over - Back in the pool
Well done. Procrastinating - yes something we've all done to some degree, and then once you get past it you think to yourself, Why didn't I do that in the first place?
Well done. Cardio Nurse told me swimming was good but to remember to breathe and not to hold breath and to get used to being in water for a few minutes before launching into swimming. Similarly at end of swim don't just stop but move around in water (like gentle exercises in water) until heart rate comes back to normal apparently the pressure of water increases the heart rate - not that it's bad but you are sometimes not aware of this as you would be with other forms of exercise.
I enjoy swimming too. Great to hear you have taken the plunge.
I have some problems swimming as my fickle blood vessels don't like the change in temperature as I get in and out of the water.
I wear a wetsuit. I am very careful getting out. Dry my self down and sit wrapped in a fleecy dressing gown and towel until my heart rate drops.
Then off into a hot shower and then what feels like a Houdini manoeuvre to extract myself from my wetsuit.
I much prefer an outdoor "onsen" (hot spring baths)
not sure where is the closest.
