Dry January

This keeps being mentioned to the point of irritation. Is anybody doing it. One friend is but says he will have a glass of wine when we take advantage of a discount deal (-25%) with our partners this evening.

I am not doing it but am doing Chocuary (chocolate free) and Pudduary (pudding free). Are you doing anything?

We are doing a damp January.

Drinking much less, just a glass of wine on Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Eating more vegetables, pulses, fish less beef.

Exercising more.

Brussel sprouts are a small jewel of self contained brassicca delight 😊

We may have to agree to disagree over this issue 😉

I will dip some in chocolate, wrap in foil and randomly mix with Ferrero Rocher. Sheer bliss for chocolate and sprout lovers!

Absolutely not. It’s bad enough having a cardiac issue without being miserable as well. 🍻

I don't eat chocs or puddings either as I don't have a sweet tooth. Leave my alcohol alone (although I have cut down)!!

I`ve never made New Year resolutions before but this year I`ve made a 10 point plan, just to give my friends a good laugh really but cutting down on alcohol is on it.Going out tonight,we`ll see!!

With the meds I’m on, I’d be happy to have the choice!😢

Although I’ve stopped the tablet that could be dangerous with alcohol, so wondering what the precise definition of ‘occasional’ and ‘small’ is in the current advice😅

I do not like these "artificial" boundaries. Who sets them anyway??? I prefer to do my own thing x

Well after Christmas and NY both being all about food (and Trivial Pursuits!) I’m back on my food plan. I go to Slimming World - well went back (!) after I’d put on weight in the second year after I’d been diagnosed with HF. Lost 1 stone so far and another one to go.

So we seem to have 4 (yes 4!) boxes of chocolates unopened in the larder. All Hotel Chocolat.

Hubs is not on a diet so he is forever coming home with goodies which I have to be very disciplined not to eat!

And yes I do eat a lot of salad and vegetables, along with fish and meat. Try and cut down on the carbs as I always find that better way to shift it, hubs loves his carbs. Still, onwards and downwards and back to the gym!

If you need help with your hotel chocolate, I'm here for you!! I never got any this year!

Well done on the weight loss, I'm hitting the treadmill most nights, new years resolution.... to get back to the gym!

Yes, it’s irritating when you keep hearing it.

It’s just another fad word someone thought up. People been trying to avoid 70% of the bad things we eat relentlessly every January since gluttony and greed became part of certainly, British, thinking and more so over the last 25yrs.

The amount of people (no concern of mine obviously) I notice eating bags and bags of salty foods in the streets and all the other junk that’s on our supermarket shelves and so cheap nowadays.

I don’t drink, smoke or indulge in silliness; people are so brainwashed from tv programmes, magazines, youtube and so on... most of our ills today are via our psychological profile. The longer and deeper we talk about rubbish the more likely our lives will become affected by it.

I’m lucky to not have any dependants, or friends for that matter, as I don’t socialise purely for psychological well being reasons and that means, psychological challenges are much easier to deal with and living on my own.

I haven't had a drink in 20 years since I started taking opiates. Never bothered me in the least. I just miss a whiskey at Christmas. If you're going to cut down, do it at any time not because some fad says so.

Sometimes a fad can be a motivation. I used to have a very sweet tooth so gave up sugar for lent one year. That really was hard but I never went back to it. That was many years ago & I'm not a lover of sweet things now, though I do have the occasional bar of chocolate, can't count that though...can we?

Qualipop profile image

Chocolate ( dark) is good for you; that's my excuse although I don't have a sweet tooth. My hardest was giving up crisps. I really really want a bag of crisps but I still wouldn't give up just because someone fancied a crisp free October or whatever.

When is gin unwanted?? Had some sitting there for ages and did enjoy a few (hmmm) glasses over the festive period.
