A man works on the 10th floor. Most days he goes to the 7th floor and walks the last three flights. He does this even if he is late. Why?

Because he’s too short to reach and press the 10th button.

I agree with deano, it obviously wasnt a modern digital lift lol

I agree, he's vertically challenged, it's an old style lift, and he wasn't in the US, or there would have been a lift attendant!

Lift stops at 10 to avoid using the number 13?

Please can you expand on your answer?

It was an architectural superstition, to keep from having the dreaded number 13 appearing on building directories and lift panels. Buildings with 13 floors often (especially in the USA) had lifts going only to tenth to twelfth floors as it was presumed a healthy person could easily manage a three flight walk-up/down. I believe it's still a superstitious avoidance method in many parts of the world today.

sigh. I'm wrong about the answer being the lift only went to the tenth floor in your brain teaser - it was late at night and I did think I read the man worked three flights above the tenth floor, not the seventh as I now in the clear morning light read your post.

I never get these things, and in all honesty must now confess even a simple 250 piece jigsaw puzzle can take me a week to solve. I'm just not good at these sorts of things - but I do love following along:)

Lift finishes at 7th floor?

He is a midget.

He could perhaps use an umbrella to push the buttons if it’s been raining?

A man contributes useful information to an important chat room, most days. Then highjacks the sight to work out his comedy routine, why?

Hijack or therapy??

The gentleman to who you refer like his fellow Heartstar (Milkfairy) contribute massively to this support forum. I have truly benefitted from his advice. They also say "Laughter is the best medicine". At times there are jokes and light-hearted banter on here that the majority seem to enjoy. A few of these puzzles have really exercised the brain cells which can be no bad thing!

Laughter can help people forget their problems, medical or otherwise, even if it's for only for a short period of time. Some people live on their own, this site may be their only form of communication during the long dark nights!

Additionally, those puzzles are great brain training for people with cognitive issues like my husband.

What the others have said in reply to your uncalled for comment. Michael's posts are always substantive - the jokes and brain teasers are every bit as contributory as the replies giving the benefit of his wisdom.

Is it because the lift only goes to the 7th floor?

Perhaps by the time he gets to the 7th floor his claustrophobia always kicks in?

By getting off at the 7th floor he has a chance to see the girl he fancies, but has never had the courage to speak to? Perhaps today will be the day!!

What a romantic you are Yorkshirehead!!!

The local GP receptionist with whom he once had a massive argument always get on at the 8th.

That made me chuckle 🤪

There has been no definitive answer but go with the answer that the man is a midget - three foot tall, and the highest button he can reach is the 7th floor.

I only know one of these - A person is found lying on a bed - dead. At the end of the bed are a pile of shavings. How did the person die and why?

Its more a question and answer scenario since the answer cannot be discovered without asking questions - however I am up for it if you are.

There's no lift in the building. He walks all the way up and down.

MichaelJH profile image
MichaelJHHeart Star

Yes, he was vertically challenged and could only go to the 10th if a taller person used the lift to go up.

Like Afterglow32's logic about the umbrella.

Omg 😂🤣 these answers are hilarious. Can’t get the answer. Apart from they are still working on the last three lift stops. But it was worth reading just for the laugh. Thanks 😊

The man is a midget - three foot tall, and the highest button he can reach is the 7th floor. THAT's THE ANSWER ROFL
