Hi everyone. I saw a cardiologist a couple of weeks ago. He said that he thinks I might have myopericarditis. He said that I could do some exercise but I needed to take it easy. I didn't ask him if it was OK to do the 5 2. I was pre diabetic but I have managed to bring my number down so I am all clear. I also have brought down my cholesterol numbers. I have also lost about 6 pounds in 3 weeks. I was just wondering if its OK for me to carry on with 5 2? It seams to be working. Any suggestions would be great. Thanks.

5 2 diet and heart problems
Hello
Found this on the BHF site which is a good reliable place to give good advice
Will put you the link not sure if it will help but maybe worth reading x
hi, I am currently doing intermittent fasting and feel great, so hopefully this will help long term with my cardiomyopathy and it’s all about how you feel doing it, so if you feel good doing it and it’s helped your health then it’s a win win.
i am neither a dietician or a cordiologist but from my own experience i have foiund that during health problems and recovery it is best to be gentle with my approach to restricting my diet
it must be really encouraging to have found a way of losing wieght and regaining control over your blood sugar levels, but while you have myopericarditis you might want to try more of a 6-1 approach, or alternating 5-2 and 6-1. Your body is already coping with a heart which is struggling a bit, so be kind to yourself
Hi, I had Myopericarditis when I was in hospital the mri showed it up and they told me that I needed to rest it was the only way to get over it as it’s inflammation of the heart so I couldn’t do much for a few months. I also was pre diabetic and got my Hb1Ac numbers down to 39 from 44 by fasting 2 days a week but when they told me I’d got this I stopped it and just eat sensibly fruit veg fish and chicken and cut out sweet things. Personally I sometimes eat my breakfast and light lunch and miss evening food until breakfast the next day twice a week and it works for me to keep my weight down snd staying under pre diabetes. Good luck with what you decide to do but do rest as you don’t want your heart to get more inflammation. X
Thanks. I used to do alot of exercise. I was a runner but hurt my knee. I wanted to get back to running but thats now on hold. I am having an echocardiogram on the 29th. That will show if I do have myocarditis. I did do some heavy lifting the other day which put my heart rate up. It effected me for the rest of the day. I didn't feel to good. Its the fluttering and missing heart beats that get me the most. I have decided to stop all exercise until I get the all clear. I don't want to risk anything as I have already had 2 heart attacks over the last 20 years. Thats the reason I am trying the fasting because I need to get my weight down. I also hurt my back. So thats another reason.
The echo is unlikely to show myocarditis (I also have myopericarditis) - the MRI is really the best way to see it. The echo will be to look at heart structure and see if there's excess fluid in the pericardium.
I've done the 5:2 before, and the fast800 - both before the myopericarditis. I'd say it would be worth talking to your doctor to see if these diets are OK fir you... most wouldn't recommend them if you're not significantly overweight, while you are recovering, as you may be missing out on nutrients your body needs during the healing process.
Just to let you all know. I am 215 lbs i was 222.4lbs 4 weeks ago. I am 5ft 7ins and 49 years old. I have been 220 to 230 lbs for the last 3 years. This is why I want to lose weight.
hello,
I believe that my heart problem (myocarditis still to be confirmed by MRI) was caused by fasting. I was eating just one meal a day (dinner only) and was on my 3rd day and doing fine. But my stomach went crazy with acid reflux which led to heartburn+++ (two episodes in one week) resembling a heart attack , and consequently troponins etc.
Now, I’m really careful about not having an empty stomach too long. I wasn’t aware of any stomach issues prior to all this.
