Had a quadrupal bypass in September, everything going well until couple of weeks ago when it was identified that I have gone into AF with an irregular heart beat. Today i have read an article suggesting that the medication i take for depression (Setraline) is known to have a side effect that causes irregular heartbeat. Has anyone else heard of this,

Hello. My late mother was on sertraline because of the depressive effects of Parkinsons medication. An irregular heartbeat in one of the rarer side effects mentioned in the PIL (patient information leaflet). AF is sometimes triggered by OHS (open heart surgery) as the heart does not like being messed about (hence the pacing wires left on for the first few days). Two school friends have irregular heartbeat issues. Whilst one is on medication the other is currently fine after excluding caffeine, alcohol, chocolate and spicy food from his diet. Definitely worth a try if applicable.
I have looked at the research and while some SSRIs can affect the electrical activity of the heart, sertraline is not one of them.
