Irregular heartbeat? Please can anyone recommend a heart rate monitor that I can use at home?

It really does depend on what you want to do. If you just want to do 'spot checks' then a blood pressure meter or oximeter will do that - both readily available and cheap. If you want to record your heart rate over a period of time (12/24 hrs), then a fitness watch will likely do the job (Fitbit and the like). You'll need a computer to down load the info. Generally, devices that link to a specialised chest band tend to me the most accurate in consumer devices. (eg Gamen watch). Apple's iWatch 5 also does an ECG (amongst a whole heap of other health related stuff) but you are over £400 by this point. I use a TomTom fitness watch. It records my heart rate during exercise (running, walking, gym etc.) and comes in around £180.

I would be wary of using monitors. For the last year I've been using a blood pressure monitor which also shows the heart rate. The monitor has always shown readings in the 70's, so got a shock recently when the hospital said husbands resting heart rate was 50!! I'm now taking his HR manually and yes it's regularly in low 50's and has dipped to 48 on a few occasions but not once has it been in the 70's.

Blood pressure monitor is the same one they use in hospitals, it was given to us by husbands nurse and on looking back we renembered his nurse always took his pulse manually.

I have AF and even hospital equipment is not very good at monitoring my heart rate.

The old fashion finger on the pulse is much more reliable
