Red Clover

Hi, has anyone had experience of taking Red Clover. I am having dreadful side effects of being on stains and in an effort to reduce the amount I am taking I have read that Red Clover is an excellent way of reducing the harmful levels of cholesterol. I have talked through the options with my doctor but as its not recommend under NHS guidelines he feels he is unable to recommend it

I agree with Sillyfroggy.....perhaps you have already run through a few statins. But lots of us here have persisted (I am on my fourth) until we found one that suited. OK.

If you are having real issues you could ask your GP for a referral to a Lipid Clinic. Red Clover is one of supplements where the benefits are totally inconclusive and there no a basis for medical treatment.

Ask your GP to prescribe you a different statin if you have only tried the one. I was initially prescribed Atorvastatin, then Simvastatin and then Pravastatin. All gave me chronic aches and pains, especially when I exercised. I was told about CQ10 helping, but never investigated this. I was eventually prescribed Rosuvastatin which gave me none of the pain and has proved to be very effective at a low dose (10mg alternate days). Do not suffer in silence. Medication is there to make you better, certainly not to make your quality of life worse.

P.S. At one time I was prescribed Ezetimibe, but it was found to be totally ineffective.
