......so unlucky but staying positive

10 weeks after my heart attack and 9 weeks since having 2 stents fitted. Feel great now and friends tell me I have never looked better😀. I have now just been diagnosed with breast cancer which is near to my heart so I am now thinking that the meds, including the blood thinners may hinder any op I need. I am still severely bruised from the biopsy. I am staying up beat and positive as it could be worse. Luckily I start my cardio rehab the same day as I see the breast surgeon so they can help out mentally. Anybody else out there in this wonderful group been through a similar scenario? Thank you in advance.

What a lot you’re having to contend with all at once. That’s tough. But I know the rehab will give you a great boost, once you settle in. I found it great to be able to actually get working on some small targets....and with nice, interested people. .For me, I think helplessness had set in, till then.

I’m sure the medical services will have lots of ideas.....strangely, I think they really like less straightforward ‘cases’!

We are rooting for you. I’m sure you will get lots of replies! Possibly even from someone who’s had something a bit similar.

Keep in touch.

Thanks Kristin. Funnily enough the consultants secretary who I spoke to this week was very excited and interested in meeting me on Wednesday because of my recent HA and now the BC diagnosis so I think you are right about them loving something other than the norm. Interesting times ahead 😊

Sending positive thoughts and reminders to make sure you;re wearing your best underwear when you go for appointments - as my mother always said "don;t embarrass me by not wearing clean underwear if you get hit by a bus and go to hospital". As an adult you embarrass yourself if you accidentally wear your novelty knickers and only realise afterwards that the doctor is extra smiley because you are wearing hedgehog drawers with the slogan "let's get cosy and hibernate"...... All the very best xx

Hi Smidget, sorry to hear you're having a tough time right now. I personally don't know of anyone who has had & HA & BC but I do belong to a support group for HF and there are members there who've had to deal with this double whammy. So glad to hear your positive attitude, it really does help, its what has kept my husband going for 21 years.

Good luck with your treatment & you have my very best wishes

Hi Smidget

I am so sorry to hear you are dealing with so much all at one. Life has certainly bowled you a curved ball. A double whammy as Lezzers says.

I am sure you will receive the best of care however some of the ongoing treatments such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy can cause issues.

There are a few Cardio Oncology units in the UK who can advise your team if necessary.

There is a Cardiologist at Barts hospital in London

bartshealth.nhs.uk/find-a-c...

Also a service at the Royal Brompton hospital in London.

I hope your surgery goes well.

I wish you well with your ongoing treatments.

I had ovarian cancer 15 years ago, and had everything removed. I was very lucky to survive that, but then got heart failure 11 years ago, plus a blocked artery and had a stent fitted. Although there have been ups and downs, I have recently been prescribed entresto which has made quite a difference, and I’m managing quite well now.

Good luck with it all, and try to think positively. Many people do survive this.

In 2018 I had the same two events, in reverse. Breast cancer first heart attack and stents four months after radiation treatments ended. What I learned is, they can take you off blood thinners if your breast surgery can't wait, and conversely once they grade your tumor and establish your genetics they may be able to postpone surgery and perhaps do radiation first and surgery a little later. My guess is they will take you off the blood thinners. If they do a lumpectomy the recovery is pretty quick and you could go back on the heart meds.
