Has anyone taking these together, I'm on bisoprolol and I was in hospital yesterday with chest pains but they didn't find anything heart related causing the chest pains so they gave me codeine for pain and Omeprazole

I was fine with them - but appreciate we all tolerate medication differently.

Your doctor and pharmacist wouldn't have prescribed them to you if they weren't.

If taking them longer than a couple of days you might want a laxative - from experience. And if they are strong/you're not used to them, don't drive as they can make you drowsy.

Hi Danielle

I took Codeine and Paracetamol with Bisoprolol and my other meds after my double bypass. I didn’t encounter any problems apart from constipation which I had medication for.

Take care

Immediately after my heart bypass I took the maximum dose allowed of paracetemol which was 8 tablets over a 24 hour period. It just about took away the pain of the surgery and after 8 weeks I suddenly found I didnt need them any more. I had no problems with constipation but the trick was to space them out

I take the maximum dose of cocodamol, and Bisoprolol. No problems with constipation either.

Hi Danielle35. Codeine is an opiate so along with causing constipation, they gave my husband weird hallucinations!!! Good luck xxxx

Hi Danielle35,

I am on both, actually I used to be on co codomol but now on dihydrocodeine. The co codomol did not make me constipated but the dihydrocodeine does!!! As far as I know its fine and safe to take both. Im being careful what I say here as sadly I got roasted yesterday for posting something my GP AND CARDIOLOGIST TOLD ME!!! NOWT SO WEIRD AS FOLK!!! I would double check though, but I am as sure as I can be that it is ok. Ive been taking them for years!!! Also I took both until the day before my heart bypass surgery, so with that, Im presuming it is safe. Good luck

Hi sorry to hear this. Do go back to GP if your pain continues for more than a few days. I take bisoprolol for my heart and codeine when needed for fibromyalgia. No complications with these two meds. But as others have mentioned a change in bowel movements is a well known annoying side effect! I manage it with couple days on then a day off and back again! Not ideal but manageable. Best of luck 🤞🏽
