Hello all I had a perfusion cmri scan almost 4 weeks ago at wythenshawe hospital in the north west has anybody else experienced one of these? How long did it take to get the results back and would it be able to diagnose micro cardio vascular angina please? Many thanks
Perfusion cmr scan: Hello all I had a... - British Heart Fou...
Perfusion cmr scan
Hi Workingalonelady
Waiting for results is the worst...
A perfusion MRI can in some cases diagnose the type of microvascular angina caused by microvascular dysfunction. This occurs when the small blood vessels fail to dilate in response to extra demands such as exercise.
The adenosine they use speeds up your heart rate and they look to see how well the small and large blood vessels respond.
Even if it is normal that doesn't mean you don't have microvascular angina .
Another cause of microvascular angina is a problem with your blood vessels constricting or going into spasm. Perfusion MRI 's do not pick up these vasospasms.
My previous MRIs have shown that my small and large blood vessels can dilate.
I have microvascular and vasospastic angina due to vasospasms diagnosed with an angiogram with acetylcholine.
I hope you get your results soon.
I am still waiting for the results of my 3rd perfusion MRI 3 weeks ago which landed me in A&E because the adenosine triggered some vasospasms after the test finished.
Thanks for the detailed and informative reply milkfairy you always put my mind at ease. Yes waiting for the results is a nightmare but hopefully will get them soon. Wow 3 perfusion mri scans that's a lot and very brave. I didnt like the scan but only thing that stopped me from going in a mad panic was knowing I might actually find out the cause of my symptoms. Good luck milkfairy hope like me you hear soon x
How was the scan for you, did you get pain in your chest etc?
Hello bee2 the perfusion scan for me gave me a lot of pressure in my chest and pain in the top of my left arm. That only lasted a short while and as soon as they stopped the perfusion the symptoms stopped immediately. Are you having one soon?
I've had one done and had the same level of pain as when I've had heart attacks, the same with Angiogram and Nuclear Stress test.
Hoping your results are good.
Mine wasn't done as my heart rate was too high, so disappointed as I still don't know what the small arteries are like.
Hello lizzie20 my heart rate was very high because I was claustrophobic but the nurse calmed me down otherwise I would of had to reschedule which I didn't want. I breathed and tried to relax and just thought if I don't have this done today I'm never going to find out the cause. I also started to sing in my head which helped.
