Lady's operation

Just to let you know Lady came home from her surgery last night. We won't know until the 30th of the month but she is doing well. She's confined to barracks for 2 weeks and can only go out on the decking. Her wound is very long and I was told to remove the dressing today, I tried a bit on my own gently prising it off but she squeeled so after a bit I got my hubby to hold her and I just ripped it off, she squeeled but it was over in seconds. I bought her a doughnut type item which attached to her collar, its better than a cone to stop her touching her wound she seems fine only problem is the 1/4 Paracetamol I have to get her to take twice daily. I hope you are all enjoying this hot weather I'm afraid its too much for us xxxx

Glad to hear Lady is home again, good luck with the confined to barracks. I've had 2 dogs strickly cage rested to limit all movement for 6 weeks, that isn't easy!! The collars look so much more comfortable than the cones, which really hurt if you get stabbed in the leg with one!! Can you hide the paracetamol in food? If that doesn't go well ask bout oral pain killer which is given by syringe, so much easier. Best wishes for Lady's continued recovery xx

Yes the cone type does hurt, my lovely Thomas had one on and we both ended up with curved bruises all over the back of our legs he just bumped into us all the time! X

I’m so pleased to hear Lady is home it’s such a worry when pets get poorly. You could try liquid paracetamol and draw the correct dose with a syringe. I’m sure it would be easier to get right dose. For example if 10mls is 50mg (=1tab) half would be 25mg etc

I’m not sure if the children’s liquid paracetamol is suitable for dogs but might be worth checking out.

Give Lady hugs from me

Good to have her home. If these dogs only knew all the worry they cause us.

Glad to hear she is doing well. Yes tablets and animals can be interesting. A friend pot the stated dose of deworming tablets in her ever hungry dog. He only ate a small amount and decided to run into the living room with her chasing (good game, good game). When she eventually got him back to the kitchen the cat had popped in and eaten the lot. Fortunately she suffered no ill effects but will be excused deworming! 🐈 🐕 🌞

So glad Lady is on the road to recovery. We have cats so I can sympathise with cone injuries! Most of our stuff on mantlepieces and shelving was destroyed when cat with cone chased a spider around the walls!!

All the very best to you and yours.xxxxx

Lady had a tumour on her Adrenal gland, it was causing her to drink gallons (slight exaggeration!) of water and wee almost as much. She had scans late last year but her gland was just a little bit swollen so nothing was done other than some tablets. It really got worse again a couple of months ago so the vet scanned her and she had a 1cm tumour which had grown since Christmas so we decided it needed to come out as who knows what size it would grow to and how more difficult it would be to operate. We were referred to another Vet practice where they have excellent ITU care. We were told by Prof Williams that she might have to lose her kidney if it was stuck to the connecting tube! Her op went well and we collected her on Friday night. She's a bit stiff but is more active today. I was concerned about getting a 1/4 dose of Paracetamol into her so I decided to try it in some Apricot jam on a spoon, she turned her nose up BUT she ate a kibble dipped in the jam so I dipped a few more until I was sure she'd had all the drug, honestly animals!! We won't find out if the tumour is benign off cancerous until the 30th because the labs are very busy so that's another worry.
