My dog has a tumour on her Adrenal gland which must be removed, it's grown from nothing to 1cm in 6 months, her first symptoms were drinking a lot and peeing it straight out again. Big dos etc our own vet referred her to another vet's where they have better ICU facilities. We took her over yesterday morning to have a scan, the vet examined her and told us that the heart murmur we knew she had was quite bad. We left her with them and went back in the evening to collect her. Her discharge paper told us everything she'd had done and what they had found and I couldn't believe it when I read that she has Mitral valve & tricuspid valve regurgitation!! This is precisely what I was operated on for in March, unfortunately, they don't operate on dogs yet although I understand if I had a spare £17K there's a vet school in London starting to do open heart surgery on dogs! She's now on tablets for life to stop her getting heart failure for a bit but they seem confident that they can operate on the tumour in a couple of weeks so we're going to see our vet on Monday and will go through their detailed report and make our decision but we feel she deserves a chance, if we don't get the operation she will continue with the symptoms and the tumour will grow, it doesn't seem to have spread or invaded anywhere else yet so I suppose we will have to bite the bullet and go ahead with it. I just felt I wanted to share this with you all as we're so worried about her and her having the same problem as I had is unbelievable

My wee dog Lady
Oh, I am so sorry to hear bout your poorly dog & what a heck of a coincidence re the heart problems. £17k is such a lot of money, I'm not even sure there's an insurer out there who gives that much cover. I hope things turn out OK, please let us know xx
Sorry to hear this! My sister's dog was on heart medication for many years but still lived to about 15 dropping dead of s HA after running up the stairs. The veterinary college is the Royal Veterinary College in Potters Bar not far from me.
Hope the appointment about the tumor goes well!
Hello, I’m sorry to hear about Lady and hope she makes a good recovery from her tumour surgery when she has it, assuming you go ahead. It’s quite a coincidence about her heart condition and so amazing what can be done for dogs now.
So sorry about Lady (what a cutie) but stay positive. I've had 2 cats operated on for various malignant tumours and they lived to tell the tale! Our gorgeous cat Cassie had atrial fibrillation (and cancer) and was on drugs for 16 years. She lived to the ripe old age of 20!! Not sure whether dogs are a bit different in medical terms but we're thinking of you.
Let us know how things progress xxxx
Have you asked for a referral to the Royal Dick in Edinburgh?
Well that had me almost in tears. Lady is such a beautiful doggie she doesn’t deserve that, neither do you. I always say I wish our pets lived as long as we do and human treatments were available to our pets.
Sending all good wishes to you and Lady
