New Job

Just wanted to share some good news with you all. 12 months ago today I was admitted to hospital for 7 weeks with Endocatitis and a very minor stroke. I have recovered well but have a mild aortic leak. Fortunately I don't need surgery yet. I have failed to return to full time work and was forced out of my job. That's a matter for a tribunal now. I feared with my health issues I would struggle to get a new job. I decided to temp and work part time. It wasn't easy but if you temp no one asks too many questions. I found a position in the offices at my local zoo I love it. They have got to know me and realise that my heart problem doesn't hinder me that much at the moment but will support me when it does . Today I was offered the job permanently such a turn around from this time last year. For any one struggling to find a job temping or contracting may be the way in. So thrilled I love animals. Fingers crossed I don't need the operation too soon.😊 Good luck to anyone on a job search there is something out there for you x

Congratulations, glad your new employer has looked past the health issues, I would love a job working with animals rather than the legal secretarial work I do.

I would love to work with the animals but it's payroll for me. Being a Keeper is a hard physical job. I am happy to hang around the Zoo and volunteer with hedgehogs 😊

Thanks for the lovely comments. I just wanted to share something really positive. Not completely out of the woods and worry about my annual check up. My task now is to get myself as fit as possible for the day when I need surgery. Onwards and upwards as someone said 😊.

Thank you. I hope you good too. Always heed your advice about wearing gloves. Enjoy your summer too

CONGRATS BIG TIME, on your new job at the zoo..., just be on the alert around the tigers' cage or you may find yourself with MORE than a 'mild' aortic leak...

That's very good. Did enjoy helping give the penguins fishy ice lollies yesterday. I don't think I will come to much harm thereπŸ˜‚

I am looking for a job. I will consider this.

It's worth it the employment agencies aren't bothered about health Dec's. Obviously you shouldn't put yourself at risk. It's such a good way to get in to something though they get to know you and make a decision based on that.

Well done. πŸ™ŒI am in the throws of whether to go back and finish an MA last bit. Or look for temporary work whilst I wait for my cardiac CT scan results 5 weeks this week.

Do your MA I wish I had finished mine

I have uni on hold at the minute, they are wanting to know what my thoughts are on finishing it. I really can't say until I know my results so kind of in Limbo at the minute. But yes, I don't want to regret it. Thanks.

Good luck with it. I did a Wildlife Care course last year and did my on line modules when I was in hospital. Thee consultant was quite impressed I was studying hedgehog and badger anatomy!

Congratulations, it is always good to hear some good news. I plan to volunteer with cats later on the year as I seem able to bond with them and admire their intelligence.

I love volunteering with the hedgehogs. I have to be careful about infection but it's so rewarding and very relaxing.

You really brightened my day! Well done you!

I wish you all the very best with your tribunal. It really sounds like you have a case. When will employers realise they can't force people out of work - disability discrimination springs to mind along with other laws!!

Congratulations and best wishes to you and your zoo colleagues. Your new employer has a real treasure xxxx

It certainly was positive. I adore hedgehogs and have a resident family in our garden. Our old cat loves them and they seem to like him (I think that's because he shares his food with them!!).

Good wishes xxxx

It’s a very interesting and sad story and I’m sure that you will definitely get this job. The most important thing is not to show your fear and be sure. It is also very important to prepare a very detailed resume, because most tutors first of all look at the resume of the employee and make a conclusion about him. This is a known fact. Have you already prepared a resume? How many paragraphs are there? After I took the sample from the site themoneymix.com/how-to-writ..., I wrote about 7 paragraphs in the resume and my boss was very impressed with this resume. So take this as carefully as possible !!!

What lovely news, l live in Bristol but havn't been to the zoo for years perhaps l will take my Grandsons. My passion is Camels, l rode one in Tunisia, l kept stroking its neck and l don't think anyone had ever touched him in a affectionate way because he kept turning his head to stare at me and fluttering his enormous eyelashes. Do they have any Camels at the Zoo?. Take care, Sue.

Unfortunately not. But we do have some beautiful giraffes up at Wild Place as well as some amazing bears 🐻
