I'm taking 80+60 mgs per day. 80 after breakfast and 60 mid afternoon. I was wondering if it would make me less tired in the day time if I split the dose. I could take 40 on waking, 40 after breakfast, 40 after lunch the 20 early evening. Any thoughts appreciated as I'm discharged from heart failure nurses and don't want to ask g.p.

Thank you

The guidelines say once or twice daily so I think you need to speak to your GP about this. Saying this the half-life is only a few hours so four times daily does not seem unreasonable. Your total dose is quite high so you should be having regular blood tests for potassium depletion, etc. I will not enquire your weight but if you are slight the dose potentially seems rather high. Definitely speak to your GP

Thankyou for replying. I was having a few bad days feeling so tired and just grasping at straws. Also with no appointments now everything has to be proactive and I'm not very good at that. I'm one of life's copers. So much to sort out about husband. It's such a relief when I get a response to a post. There is someone out there🤗. So I took furusemide 80 earlier before my breakfast and will take 60 about 2ish. Hopefully I will be less tired but it may be anxiety and not meds at all.

On top of what MichaelH has said I wouldn't take any after approx 2pm/3pm or you could still find yourself backwards and forwards quite late in the evening. I have always found mine best in the morning followed by the rest at lunchtime - usually then clear by about 5pm ish - that was when I was on a high dose so now only take them about 12-30pm.

If you don't want to go to your GP yet then speak to the pharmacist. They are very knowledgeable and will tell you if it's ok to split your medication or if you need to see GP first.

I'm much better today. Took tablets at 8 a.m., home care came at 10 for two hours, got lunch and had a nap. Now ready for off again but with some energy so will keep to that routine🤗
