Bisoprolol

I`m considering stopping bisoprolol as I`m frequently tired and lethargic.I thought for years it was my heart failure causing this, now I`m not convinced. My BP has always been low and the only reason I`m able to take bisoprolol is the fact that I have a pacemaker fitted and set at 60. I`m also on candesartan.Advice very welcome.Thank you.

2.5 mg

as others have said Bisoporol is the medication you cannot just stop. I had huge problems with exhaustion and cold hands and feet when I started on it. My GP was sympathetic and took the dose down a step at a time - it took months (was on 7.5 and was like a zombie). I now take 1.25mg a day and tolerate it well. You need to discuss it with your GP. Good luck.

Thank you so much.I will discuss it with my GP.Perhaps I can take a lower dose.It was foolish of me to think I knew best.Thank goodness some of you out there have more sense than me!!!

Hi Cowparsley

Don't just stop until you discuss it with your Pacemaker Clinic, Has anyone suggested Entresto it would replace the Candesartan. I don't know the typical Medication when you have a pacemaker fitted for pacing, sure someone will be along who can help with more information. I have a stress MRI next month to see how my Heart Failure is progressing after being a little short of breath, H F Nurse is a little concerned !!! But please don't stop Bisoprolol until you have discussed it with professionals.

best Regards

I did stop my Bisoprolol after reducing down to 1.25 mg over 2 1/2 years and initially did feel worse, but 6 months later and over 3 years I no longer take it and feel overall better, for my anxiety I now take 10mg of propranolol daily with no side effects. to stop Bisoprolol I reduced the dosage over several weeks as my doc advised,

Thank you Ken.I`d better discuss it with my GP as I`d love to come off it.

Don’t just stop taking it have a word with your gp or Cardiolgist

I’m on 60mg XL I missed my tablets 3 times over the years, and felt really unwell by middle of night I’ve had to ring ambulance and it’s only the next day when I’m taking my meds I realised I had missed my meds

So be very careful

I was taken off bisoprolol last week because my bp was too low my go said I could have a fall and break something. I then was changed from ticagrelor to clopidogrel because I was feeling dizzy and nauseous, I am still dizzy at times and generally feeling unwell! Does anyone else feel like this?

I was on bisoprolol 2.5mg for 3 months following a HA. I regularly told the cardiac nurses and GP that I felt dizzy and exhausted, the response was to lower my statin dose. It had no effect on my total exhaustion and a whole host of alternative reasons were given, mostly it was put down to my anxiety. Strangely I never slept through the night either. Nearly 3 weeks ago I saw cardiologist for 5 mins! He told me to stop bisoprolol and replace with losartan. It was all so quick I was left in confusion. When he left I asked his registrar for some information on the new med. if I will have any side effects from stopping bisoprolol etc, she did not seem to know and I babbled on so much I think she just agreed with me. The first week I began to feel a little more ‘awake’ 2nd week I was very tearful for no apparent reason, now I’m less tearful. All in all I still don’t feel myself but I’m a lot better since coming off bisoprolol.

My ha was four weeks ago I have a blocked artery which they said was old and leaving alone. My Gp took me off these meds he was concerned they would cause other problems, I feel better being off them but still feel dizzy exhausted and don’t sleep very well! Will be seeing the cardiac rehab nurse this week that will be interesting. I hope you get sorted in one way I feel I’m not on my own feeling so awful.

Don't stop without seeing your Gp 1st, I was having problems with Bisoprolol on a relativley low dose. I consulted my Gp and he changed to a different beta-blocker that is working well without the tiredness and constant fatigue. Cardovilol works well for me but one of the other alternatives may work for you. I also have a pacemaker insitu so it doesn't have to be bisoprolol.

Thank you so much.Brilliant.Will see my GP asap.Best wishes

Everyone is different, I was put on Bisoprolol prior to my heart attack and felt so awful I stopped it! Now after stent for a blocked artery I am taking Metoprolol and that’s fine. So there are alternatives. Discuss with your doctors. Hope it works out for you.

Hi - after being poorly for 3 years (nothing connected to cardio issues apparently at the time), 12 months ago I had a cardiac arrest and HA out of the blue pretty much. They fitted one stent immediately and put me on 12 meds which included Bisoprolol. 2 days later on the ward the changed that to Ivrabradine - I don't know why. Another stent two days later and released. By November, I was not feeling great, but able to walk a couple of miles a day. Then they changed me back onto Bisoprolol and I went down hill (they put me on Ranozoline at that time too). Thought the Ranozoline was the culprit so they stopped that - but no change. Have now swapped back onto Ivrabradine and am now coming back to exercising. During all this time and the last ten years my BP has been @120/80m and HR 50/60, so no real clues there. My experience is that there is a' just in case protocol' that doesn't work for us all, so do question and insist with your GP / Cardiologist.

Thank you for that.I keep as fit as possible,I enjoy it but the tiredness prevents me from regaining my previous level.Glad to hear you`re getting back on form.Good luck.

Hi

I started Bisoprolol 3.75 this week. Reading the messages here most people seem to take less. Should I take half in the morning and half at night or do I take it in one dose? I was on Sotalol before which was exhausting. I feel ok so far but having difficulty sleeping sort of " on the alert". Or could that be the Flecaine which I started at the same time?

This was a fascinating message trail. Thanks to you all! I have been on 1.25 bisoprorol for over 7 years following a mild heart attack and stent and suffered have from dizziness and lack of feeling in my extremities and general grottiness over the last year plus lack of sleep. Perhaps foolishly, I have axed the pill. I now sleep like a top and feel great, though my hands still feel numb in the morning till I get going. But reading all your dire warnings, I am booking a GP appointment asap.
