Heart medication swollen bruised lower leg

i Had a heart attack a month ago although heart not damaged, it was due to cholesterol and have been on the usual cocktail of drugs

Statins ACE inhibitors aspirin beta blocker and have developed a swollen bruised lower leg and cough. My reading suggests it’s the Rampiril. Any thoughts very gratefully received.

It looks a bit cellulitis to me. Go see GP

Bruising could be Ticagrelor, Cough Ramipril. I had to change from Ramipril to Losartan because I couldn’t cope with the cough. I’m getting used to the bruises as I have to continue with the Ticagrelor for ever.

Considering recent events I would not hesitate in getting the leg checked out asap. I had always been a easy bruiser, but since taking heart meds the bruising is quite impressive. One recently that I couldn’t remember was on my wrist and it became swollen very quickly. As I couldn’t recall knocking it, I walked into my GP’s and got it checked out (the swelling was still increasing!) I was beginning to get pins and needles in my fingers he advised cold compress etc and to monitor blood flow to fingers . If I started to loose sensation to go straight to A&E. It was reassuring to just get it checked out. So please go and get it checked !

I have to agree with Howell53 get it checked ASAP. Either ring 111 or go to an Urgent Care Centre or Walk In. Doesn't matter it is Bank Holiday - get it done.

In A and E now possibly cellulitis

Need to rule out Deep Venous Thrombosis ( DVT ).

Agree with the others, can’t assume it’s medication related.

Rampiril can cause the annoying cough and betablockers , depending which one you are taking can cause the odema in the lower limbs. As you are on an anteplatelet plus aspirin ,then they cause bruising.

I suggest a chat with your GP about altering your prescription

My reasons for suggesting urgent treatment/advice be sought.

Last Saturday my wife asked me if I thought her foot and leg were a funny colour - they were deep purple, she has suffered from circulation problems before and already has stents in her legs. Needless to say a phone call to 111 resulted me in taking her to A&E - quicker than waiting for an Ambulance.

Got to the RVI in Newcastle where it seems she was expected, taken through to be examined after about 20 minutes. Blood tests, a scan and transferred to the Freeman where a Consultant was waiting for her. End result was she had an emergency op for a new type of femoral bypass. NHS at its best in my view - saved her life and saved her leg. Will be a long recovery period, she's not out of the woods yet as now has 2 infections and blood clots.

This was a result of being ignored over a period of time and eventually it got to a life threatening situation. There are certain medical professionals who now appear to have squeaky sphincter muscle syndrome.

I would call NHS24 for advice. Is it hot? I would measure it too to see how different it is to the other leg and to keep note of any increased swelling. I definitely wouldn't ignore it.

Rampril is an ACE inhibitor and loads of patients get ACE Inhibitor induced coughs. Nothing to worry about but can be annoying. There are other ACEI out there you could try.
