Hello, moaner here again πŸ€ͺ recently my legs have srarted to hold water, not a Hugh amount but they feel weird too .tingling and tight

My blood pressure is up and down like a yo yo and I’m taking Adizam , Candestarten, ravostain and clipodogril ( probably spelt wrong but too lazy to go find the box )

I’m sick to death of chasing the doctors every five min and getting nowhere just in ever decreasing circles, I know you are not doctors but any sensible input would be good until I get another appointment 😊

Hello :-)

You are taking my title of me I thought I was the biggest moaner on here :-)

But sometimes we have to have a moan :-)

I can understand that feeling of chasing the Doctors trying to even get to speak to one can be like winning the lottery but you might not like me saying it but you need to keep chasing them and get those legs sorted out you cannot ignore it

Do you find the swelling goes down over night when you have had them elevated ?

I know how fed up you must feel but you need to get it sorted put your assertive head on as I say and get on that phone tomorrow and don't take no for an answer :-)

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Thank you from one moaner to another πŸ˜‚ it goes overnight and I don’t usually notice it until late afternoon , it’s not good when you feel like a blooming nuisance is it but yes I shall be on the phone yet again tomorrow don’t you worry 😊

in reply to Hazel1010

Hello :-)

Yes from one moaner to another :-)

You should never feel a nuisance I know easier said than done sometimes but I tell myself they do get paid and without us so called nuisances they would be out of a job and then they would not have a wage so see it you are helping to pay for their next holiday :-)

Also this is your life and your body and you have to look after it we only get the one :-)

So get on that phone and let e know how you get on :-) x

waiting for a crt (urgent), They keep apologising and yesterday they said that I will get a pre op assessment at some time, but earliest is still end of October. Yesterday had heart pain that happened when excited (like when the government resignations happened) or when standing up etc. My area has above average older people, but clearly the NHs has not planned for this.

in reply to HeartyJames

Hello :-)

You made me smile I am watching the Government slowly collapsing but not sure if I would call it exciting or the world just getting worse by the minute :-)

It sounds like you are going through such a lot and there is nothing worse than all this feeling of been unsure and waiting especially as it must feel so confusing to be told that something is urgent yet October which is a while away might be the earliest they can see you it would have me in a flap

If you feel you need to be seen sooner or things are getting worse you need to get back on to them and ask to speak to someone higher up than you have been already

We should not have to do this I know but if we do not for a better word fight to be seen when we really need to then we can get left

I know the NHS is busy and I can appreciate that but if you feel things are not right keep pushing to be seen

Keep us updated and stop watching the Government collapsing that alone is enough to make anyone feel ill :-)

Hope everything goes ok :-) x

It could be fluid around your heart and/or in your lung area. This happened to me and my GP ignoredit for a couple of years. Once i got to the hospital and got the proper meds. it dsappeared within days. BUT there may be other reasons for this but fluid is a likely suspect. I am not a medic.Do not ignore it. Get it treated.

Will do I shall be on the phone again tomorrow 😊

yep, keep on chasing and fighting the good fight. test the front of your ankle joint exactly where your foot starts on the top and see if you get any denting that stays (pitting) after a nights sleep, that what Royal Bromption Drs were doing when i was on my water restriction in hospital.

Adizem is one of the brand names for Diltazem. Diltazem is a CCI (Calcium Channel Inhibitor). The most common side effect of CCIs is oedema. I didn't get oedema but did with another CCI Amlodipine to the extent I had to wear trainers without laces. In general Diltazem is used to try and prevent angina. Another CCI might be more suitable or there is Isosorbide Mononitrate which is slightly less effective (or was in my case) but after the initial settling in period has less side effects. Obviously I might be wrong but it is worth running past your GP.

Thanks for this information. I have just been prescribed amlodopine 5mg for high BP.My, mainly right foot and calf, are 'odd'. It started with 1 toe some years ago but has now spread. GP says its neuropathy due to previous chemo treatment. It feels like I'm wearing a concrete boot but now I've noticed my right ankle is swollen and the skin over my foot is tight and reddened.

Like everyone else I'd stand a better chance of a meeting with the Pope than my GP.

Any suggestions gratefully appreciated.

Stay safe everyone.

Hi I do not have experience of your problem, but do have trouble getting to speak to a GP. Last week I phoned and asked to speak to a GP, was told no apppointments, O said My BP is 86/46 and I feel awful don't know what to do with myself. I was told to phone 111 as I needed some medical advice, I did, they said you need to see a GP within 24 hours, phoned the GP again and told them I had been assessed, the GP phoned me an hour later and asked lots of questions and then booked me in to see him the next morning. So perhaps that is the way to get to see a GP.

Hazel1010 profile image
Hazel1010 in reply to anke123

When you cal 111 it’s logged on your records I believe and that often gets you past the receptionist block , my surgery is doing appointments from 7am up until 8 in the evening to keep up with demand

anke123 profile image
anke123 in reply to Hazel1010

My surgery is open 8am till 6.30 pm but a lot of time still difficult to get in. Wish I was told last year when I phoned 111 to phone the GP back as instead I had a visit to A&E and the other emergency department, not a good experience.

I’ve had every opinion under the sun from doctors, consultants and clinics I’m surprised I haven’t got mad cow disease! ….including angina, bi-Gemini etc etcI’ll be on the phone to chase it up tomorrow, thank you for your reply 😊

Dear Hazel1010

Water retention is a pain, a pain to live with and a pain to manage, basically its one thing that the medically trained have to deal with as normally it means a balance of medication is needed including the dreaded β€œwater tablets”.

It is important to get it sorted, for your own comfort and health.

Start shouting again !

Take care

Yes you need to nag the doctors for the correct help but I have swollen ankles all the time especially when the weather is hot and they pit. The doctors tell me it is just bad circulation which is probably right in my case so I soak my feet in epsom salts about twice a week which has helped and drink lemon barley water which also helps. Might not work with you as my feet swelling happened after I had chemo so could be caused by other things. Keep nagging.

Morning, I know πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈI’ve basically been told that all the tests I’ve had are fine not to worry so what the heck is wrong , these are things that I’m not imagining, July last year I was on cardiology for 7 days when I went into hospital I had the resuscitation contact sticker things ready on me and my heart was shooting from 28 to 160 in rapid succession! Seriously something is not right πŸ€”

Good morning....isn't it a shame when so many of us feel we won't get the service we require from our GPs....or when we do get to at least speak to someone, we have to wait again to be given perhaps a phone appointment or a consultation with a nurse before we can even get near the GP? I can only speak from my own experience with fluid retention. I am waiting....and waiting....and waiting for my so called 'urgent' heart surgery and because of an initial huge amount of fluid retention, I now keep a daily record of my weight. Tedious, but apparently if there is a change of between one and two kilos over a couple of days I was told to seek help. I am on water tablets and so far and touching wood, there doesn't appear to be further build up but I still get the most strange feelings in my legs....mostly at night....keeps me awake a lot but I think that might be down to the meds I'm on. Please continue to pester your doctor....or whoever you get to speak to...it's a service you are entitled to and it is a duty of care that GPs should be adhering to. Good luck and I really hope you get sorted x

Hi, I think I may be able to contribute to this one.

Looking back at what happened to me I now realise I was getting lots of warnings from my body that my heart was in trouble. After a long drive to France (10 hours) my left calf swelled like a balloon. The doctor in France suspected DVT and put me on Wafarin. I was scanned twice but my veins in my calf were clear of any clots.

And that was it. No further diagnosis was made.

When I got back to the UK I checked with my GP and saw a young doctor who wasn't much interested despite me telling him about the very bad cardiac history on my fathers side of the family ( None of the males lived to see 60 and all died of cardiac problems) plus my long history of hypertension. I 'solved' the problem by buying some support stockings and soldiered on.

I then developed sudden cramps in my calf. These would happen after a few minutes walking, a sudden and very severe cramp that you could not massage away.

All of these symptoms were caused by bad circulation caused by my heart struggling. It wasn't until I was hospitalised with chest pains that I was diagnosed correctly.

The moral of all this being you have every right to insist on a comprehensive diagnosis and you should insist on this irrespective of the GP's attitude. Often GP's are overloaded and that doesn't make for a good diagnosis. Both the doctors in France and the young doctor at my GP missed obvious signs I was in trouble despite me asking them to consider my history.

I have now received excellent treatment and I cannot fault the focus and care that I have received. I am well into my treatment regime and am beginning to get my life back.

Go chase your doctor. Be polite s but be firm.

Good luck!

Interesting subject and before I thought of replying, had a look at your profile but cannot see if you have had a bypass or not, so will have to wing it a bit.

I had a heart bypass just four years ago with the surgeons harvesting the donor vein/artery in my left leg. Since then, the very bottom of the scar has always been a problem, and have put it down to nerve damage. However, I have now been having swollen ankle on left ankle only - the leg used for the farming. So the question is: - why now?

Hazel1010 profile image
Hazel1010 in reply to Kelling

I’ve had nothing other than a million test, some pills , some very scary moments , still nagging 😊

Hi hazel I too have suffered from swollen legs was on amlopodine a calcium blocker for over a year with no side effects then all of a sudden my legs below knees started to swell was suspected heart failure but blood test ruled it out so was swapped to flopodine made no difference anyway to cut a long story short stopped taking them for 10 days and it cleared up but have micro vascular angina and Chest pain started kicking in again so have restarted amlopodine doc wants me to go on nicorandil but unfortunately that gives me migraines so work in progress

Like most people, I stand next to no chance of seeing my GP. Fortunately, I see the Heart Failure Clinic every 2 months and the nurse who runs the Cardiac Rehab class a couple of times a week. The GP has to make the decision, but I can E Mail their views and suggestions to her.Suggestion is that being OK in the morning is a good sign, for me, but you should persevere in trying to get a proper diagnosis

Same here doc put me on water tabs low dose but I get cramp in my calfs at night if I take them and don't leave the house most of the day cos I'm constantly on the loo. So I don't always take them

Hazel1010 in reply to Suzyh

I love how 1 pill gives a side effect that you get another pill to sort it πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ My attitude is why am I like this and what can I do to fix it but doctors etc don’t have the time to get to the root of the problem 😳

Wingnutty profile image

When I was put on water tablets, I suffered a severe nose bleed and had to attend A&E where I was admitted, then had surgery to stop the bleed 2 days later. The water tablets were not the cause of the bleed but the subsequent blood tests showed that I was severely depleted in sodium and potassium and the testing regime was not good enough to detect the rapid depletion. This is a common problem with water tablets and severe sodium and potassium depletion is very serious which can lead to other serious complications. I've been off those tablets for 3 years now and I am putting up with the swollen legs, although I doubt they are as serious as yours.

I think it is perfectly okay to moan or complain about your health, in fact I think it is healthy to vent.

I am going on a cruise in September, it is a fab cruise off too New England and Canada with 2 days in New York. I KNOW I am going to enjoy it even if the dreaded c word means restrictions. It is 25 nights with about 15 sea days, so I am loading my Kindle with lots of books and am just going to de-stress.

I have joined a FaceBook page specifically for this cruise, and this one woman has done nothing but moan and we haven't even set sail, she is moaning that we have to be tested up to 3 days before, she is moaning that C numbers are up, she is moaning that some of the tours in New York have sold out, they should have told people to book early, she is moaning that some of the tours (left) that she wants to go on start at 7.30 am. She finishes her recent moan by saying she hopes she won't regret booking.

Don't get me wrong I like to moan along with the best but not about her kind of things, surely we should try and take responsibility for our own happiness where we can.

When it comes to our health, we don't really have much of a say in it so nothing at all wrong with getting something off your chest.

I can't give any practical advice as out of all you have mentioned I only take Clopidogrel and I don't experience any issues with it at all.

Moan away and make no apology for it!!

Hazel1010 profile image
Hazel1010

Some people are born to moan and it’s not really my nature πŸ€ͺ I’m the most chilled person you could meet and always smiling which makes people think I’m fine πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™€οΈ

I think we all need an outlet and this is as good a place to do it as anywhere.
