hi I am now 8 months on from my heart attack, & feeling well, but I bruise very easily, does anyone have the same problem.

I can only assume it is due to blood thinners

Hi Lotustriumph

I’m sorry to hear about your heart attack however, glad you are recovering well.

I believe it to be the blood thinners or anticoagulants causing this type of bruising. The NHS has the below information on their side effects.

nhs.uk/conditions/anticoagu...

If you notice more bruising than usual, or you are bleeding, it’s probably safer to seek out medical advice in case there is a blood clot developing somewhere. Unlikely, but it’s better to be safe than sorry.

I hope others come by with their experiences of blood thinners.

All the best.

Tos

Hello :-)

Yes it will be no doubt due to the blood thinners

Eventually they may take you of them and leave you on a low dose of Aspirin and the bruisers will stop appearing

I used to be covered in them and did not like it but then I thought to myself well it is a sign they are working and somehow that made me feel better about them

I hope the rest of your recovery is going really well :-) x

cheers Bekind

Going to see Doctor in a few weeks, if it doesn’t improve, but like with all medication, there are side effects, but we have to take them to keep going, so I don’t ever bother reading them.

If that’s all I have to put up with it’s a small price to pay to be alive 😂👍

Thanks for Reply, appreciated

Hello :-)

Very true in it been a small price to pay

I remember they put me on it when I was in hospital and my Husband had been gently stroking my feet ( for some strange reason ) to try and comfort me and when he stopped my feet were literally black he ran to get a Consultant and he came in and smiled and explained that this would be common while I was on the blood thinners and nothing to worry about so for me not to worry is a big one to ask but as he was so reassuring that was all that is was as well as a sign they were doing their job I never worried over that one again

I think you will find you keep bruising so as Doctors appointments are hard to get glad you have one coming up now save the pictures just in case you happen to have no bruisers when you go but I have a feeling they will say possibly the same but that reassurance is always good to have :-)

Let us know how you get on :-) x

Hello - i am also covered in bruises - some as large as my palm, but i am reassured by my cardiac nurse that it is due to my blood thinners and aspirin. I suppose it is a small price to pay for being alive so i just cover up as best as possible. Wishing you all the very best x

Hi, I haven't had a heart attack (angina), but I too suffer bruising very easily. In my case I believe it to be herediatary because my maternal grandma was exactly the same. I have only to brush against something in the garden to get a bruise. Also my skin is like tissue paper, again in the garden if I haven't bruised I probably will be bleeding, sometimes both at once. I just live with it and use a skin cream to prevent itching.

I’m exactly the same. Yesterday I wore a dress, said to my husband ooh look I’ve got no bruises on my legs, couple of hours later had two, and have got no idea how x

I got massive bruises when they gave me Ticagrelor . They changed them to Clopidogrel, and although I still got bruises, they were much smaller.

Sorry to hear about your heart attack but so good that you have recovered well from it. Woah that's one hell of a bruise! I got a bruise that big from a blood test once I think I can attach a picture, and I havent had a heart attack.

My partner is “only” on aspirin and still gets huge bruises from virtually nothing - he put his hand under the car seat recently and bumped it, the whole back of his hand was black for a week!

He’s been like this for a few years now, but funnily enough when he had his bypass (and was taking additional blood thinning meds afterwards) he barely had any bruising on his chest or legs!

if you are on tricagerol that is the culprit. You only take it for a year, as soon as i stopped they went away and I only get bruising if I bump myself now. I spent a year looking like I was a battered wife, my husband started getting paranoid that people would think it was him. Rest assured they will stop.

I got bruising from low-dose aspirin when I was taking it. My mother had been on clopidogrel for years (decades?) and used to bruise very easily. Now I know why!

My experience was similar due principally to Clopridogrel, which is usually prescribed for the first 12 months following a HA.

Hi there,Blood thinners were the culprit with me but it does settle down.

I had the same issue that resolved itself once the 12 months of prescribed ticagrelor meds ceased. I used to wake with colourful bruises on my arms mainly but occasionaly on soft tissue areas on my legs. No knocks or bangs to warrant such bruising, they just appeared and faded after a few days.

Hopefully this will be the same for you. Best wishes and good health.

Completely normal! Usually caused by anticoagulants if you’ve had a stent put in. Fun game I like to play is “how the hell did I get that one?”

Hi Lotus. I’m 9 years on from HA and by pass surgery. 6 months post surgery I was reduced to nominal 75mg Aspirin and that ever since. You will bruise more easily, some bruises will look pretty scary. If worried by one show a pharamist but in general they will fade within a few days.

Qualipop profile image
Qualipop

That's what's causing it. I think we all look as if we've been in a boxing ring; perfectly normal- don't worry.

Yep.. I am the same. Aspirin and Clopidogrel. This mystery bruise randomly has been appearing since my HA (13 weeks or so ago.) Realised last week the cause... when I fold my arms, the large watch on my left wrist presses onto my right arm! It only takes that to make a bruise! I also get other random ones which I have no idea what caused them! Lol.

Yes I had the same its the blood thinners I think that make you easy to bruisr.

hi lotustriumph

Are you on blood thinners/antiplatelets? They make you bruise like crazy. I only have to look at a wall and I bruise. Hopefully you’ll get used to it.

hi Lotustriumph since my HA 18 months ago I too bruise really easily big bruises like yours so much so that tomorrow when my doctor calls ( it’s a follow up call ) I have decided to take a pic of the latest bruise and send it to him, I too get a little worried regarding these

I would suggest mentioning this to your doctor or even to one of the nurses

Let us know how you get on 😊
