New study out today,

bbc.co.uk/news/health-48088391

itv.com/news/2019-04-29/obe...

"people with a body mass index (BMI) of 30 to 35 were at 70% higher risk of developing heart failure than their healthy weight peers. Even a BMI of 25 to 30 increased the risk by 20%, while a BMI of 35 to 40 more than doubled the risk and a BMI of 40 to 45 almost quadrupled the risk compared to people of a normal weight."

If anything the link between obesity and type 2 diabetes was even more marked, even slightly overweight people were TWICE as likely to get type 2 diabetes. And a severely obese person, with a BMI of over 40, is TWELVE times as likely to get type 2 diabetes!

Reading figures like these makes me wonder, is the type of diet (Mediterranean, Vegetarian, etc) more important, or is it just a case of the diet that best helps you stay slim is actually the healthiest choice?

Thank you, that's important news. It seems to me that we should both eat a healthy type of diet and keep slim. (My BMI is just, but only just ok, and I will lose more weight to get more firmly in the healthy zone).

The study was widely reported in the press. It seems to me to be very strange that detailed studies of millions of people seem to arouse very little curiousity on a site that looks into different drugs in great detail. Perhaps a lot people would rather pop a pill rather than go through the hard work of changing lifestyle and diet
