Hello all, I'm on holiday in Thailand right now - my first long haul trip since my treatment with 5 stents and my diagnosis of CAD 18 months ago.
Happily i'm feeling very well. We've booked a speedboat trip on Friday and I've been advised to take sea sickness medication in advance. In fact I understand that pills are given to passengers as they board the boat!! So, I don't know what these pills are but I don't want to take them if they could interact with my heart meds. There are local pharmacys I can go into. So, my question Is, does anybody know from experience if sea sickness pills are usually ok. Fyi, I take Atovastatin, bisoprolol, aspirin and amlodipine.
Thank you 😊

Cinnarizine is allegedly used by the Royal Navy. However, the best thing is to talk to your pharmacist to avoid any interaction with your current medications. Some of the antihistamine based drugs can cause palpitations best avoided by hearties. Also buy some rehydration tablets in case you are sick. Dissolved in water they help to restore your electrolyte balance and help you recover quicker. Have a good trip - a really powerful speedboat can be quite exciting!
I asked a similar question of a GP who is a member of the local yacht club. Michael's answer is way more comprehensive, detailed, and logical than the GP's response of "it'll be fine"!
Haha, that made me laugh. I sent my son - who is still in the UK - into the local pharmacy with my list of meds. The Pharmacist said exactly the same thing!! 😂
Im going to ask my pharmacist same question today as Im off on a mini cruise tomorrow and Im on amlodipine, aspirin and bisoprolol . I’ll let you know her answer.
I went on one of those speedboat day trips in Thailand in December and did not need to use any seasickness medication. The longest stretch between islands was about 20 minutes. The ride can be a little rough at times but only in short bursts. I did the Phang Nga Bay trip from Phuket
Thanks Andrew. In the end, there was such a rush that I didn't have any time to think about taking anything, let alone actually doing it! And you're right, it was completely fine. A really enjoyable and beautiful day - made me feel very thankful to be well enough to see and experience such places!
Thank you so much for taking the time to let me know. I hope you enjoy your mini cruise - we went on a 2 dayer to Bruges with friends and had the best time! Hope you do too x
