Hi everyone, I had my AVR on 28th November and have not touched a drop of alcohol since....however this weekend I though I would try a glass of Prosecco...but I could feel my heart racing and pounding in my neck after I had it, I never was a big drinker, maybe 2 glasses of wine at the weekend and that was it. Is it best to stay off alcohol completely? Im on 1.25mg Bisoporol a day. I just wondered if anyone else had the same problem, whether some drinks are worse than others? I know its only a minor issue in the grand scheme of things and what we have all been through but was just curious as to whether the odd glass of Prosecco is bad for me?

It may be that you have become intolerant to alcohol but there are a few things you could try. A friend feels funny (his words) if he drinks champagne and always passes me his glass. However, he is fine with still wine - you could try this going for the 11% rather than the 15% varieties. Waitrose do some excellent low alxhig wines that I drunk occasionally before my bypass as I felt somewhat ill!
Thanks Michael I will give that a try, my other favourite tipple is a white wine with soda so I will try that next time I am out, if that makes me feel weird then I will ditch the wine and just have the soda
Hi Den ..... I too would have a drink prior to my recent heart issues... but I decided to stop drinking alcohol as it's gives no benefits and can cause issues.
It is those special occasions when I felt most self conscious about not drinking.. but I too got a racing heart if I took a couple of sips... so thought " why do it".
Now instead of wine..
I ask for lime and soda in a wine glass.
Or a fever tree ( without the gin) in a gin glass with ice and lemon.
No one knows the difference... I feel like everyone else.. and my heart is protected.
I lost a stone in weight after giving up drinking as the calories in alcohol do not get dispersed like foods and sit there. So I am also now at a better weight, my head always feel clear ( just a couple of beers would make me groggy the next day) and psychologically I feel in a better place to cope with my condition ( alcohol is a depressant)
