can get to see GP : Hi on so much... - British Heart Fou...
can get to see GP
Ring up for an appointment and say very apologetically "I am a heart patient and am having really big problems with my medications I really need an appointment" Then if the receptionist tries to push you off with no appointment as "Doctor is fully booked for the next three weeks and we don;t book beyond that" say "Sorry, what did you say your name was? I'll write directly to the doctor and say I've had difficulty getting in to see him after my heart attack....... " Worth a try.....
Thank you for you reply have had so much trouble with getting my repeat prescriptions and appointments have already put in two complaints and even seen doc to air my concerns but still doesn’t seem to make any difference as we have 3 surgeries & one doctor the rest off the time it’s locoums
Locums are doctors. Most surgeries use locum doctors because there is a general shortage of GPs. Most people would like to see one doctor every time but that is increasingly difficult to do. If you were to try to book with ‘any’ doctor you might have better luck.
As to your symptoms, the cold hands are a common side effect of your heart meds (a lot of us have those and there isn’t too much you can do about them). Many of your other side effects could well come from your thyroid treatment (thyroxin) and/or your HRT. You definitely need to see a GP to discuss everything.
Calliope is on the right track. If the receptionist point blank refuses your polite request for an appointment within the next few weeks then ask to speak to the practise manager.
The bottom line is that adjusting your medication is a normal part of the medical process...but only if it's done in collaboration with your doctor. If you start tinkering with your own medication then you're asking for trouble. Keep a written diary of your possible side effects over a few days so you can present the GP with clear facts.
Thank good idea about diary, I always write a list off question for when I see consultant, just feeling a bit isolated as the took me off the rehab program last July cause off the pulling, have had mri with stress test which showed up blockage in left artery but would be difficult stenting but willing to do if meds don’t work. Mandy
Going in to doctors to put in my repeat prescription so going to pick up forms to do online
Thank you for being so kind
From experience Ramipril likely causing cough and Bisoprolol cold hands and feet. Obviously discuss with Doc 😊
Hi Mandy the only point I would add to the replies you already have is your ticagrelor which is normally taken for 12 months after stents. I presume you are coming up to the 12 month point so when you see GP ask about this. I came off them last week after nearly 12 months of taking them and my chest feels much better. Don't stop taking anything though before you see GP.
