Does BP have to be high consistently all the time before it causes problems? Exercise BP can reach 200 or 220 at peak levels so how come this is ok? I assume because it comes down to normal after. I am confused ...lol.
High bp: Does BP have to be high... - British Heart Fou...
High bp
High blood pressure (hypertension), is usually defined as having a sustained blood pressure of 140/90mmHg or above. A normal blood pressure reading is classed as less than 130/80mmHg. It is usually taken at rest - so in answer to your question, yes, it’s about being high all or most of the time when at rest. Note also that it is the lower figure which tends to be looked at first when first looking at BP (the upper figure tends to be the one shoots up on exercise)
Hi denden999 high blood pressure (or hypertension) means that your blood pressure is consistently higher than it should be. You can read more on this here: bhf.org.uk/informationsuppo... Hope this helps.
Glad I saw this Helen!
My BP is high again after last years stress related LVD and meds make me feel awful. Wasn't on any and was back to normal for months, even training with a PT but DWP mix up caused a bout of chest pains again & raised BP.
Medication is a no go after a fourth drug made me feel worse but as for all rest... I eat healthy, barely any processed food, little salt (only bought 1 drum of cooking in last 3 years!), am slim, exercise (when allowed!) and do not drink to excess but stress is trying its best to beat me!
I have now signed up for the 12 step email programme as I need to get help from somewhere. Thank you.
What are your BP readings craftygirl72?
Just sent another post but over last week they are mainly good with occasional readings like144/90 138/91
So annoying as most are much better.
Mine is not consistently high but still classed as high. In docs was fine, actually good... she told me about some test results which weren't great then took again and voila, high! I hadn't moved but stress level had!
I monitor at home and I'd say one in 4 is just on the /90 which puts it in yellow/high category. So annoying as most of time its fine and I feel fine, on lowering meds I feel like hell!
Waiting on permission to get back exercising/training now off drugs, fingers crossed I can keep in check naturally.
Hi Denden! I have had hypertension for some years now with consistently high blood pressure but in January I collapsed at our local shops with BP of 216/114 pulse 116. A 24 hour heart monitor was recommended and my medication increased (Ramipril & Moxonidine & Benroflumethiazide & a statin.) I have had to call the medics out once or twice and at their last visit the ECG indicated tachycardia but why has this not been picked up at previous emergency visits to A&E etc? I am finally getting the heart monitor and echo gram next week & get to see a consultant in mid-April. Like you, I am confused!
Do you have a heart problem or other condition? Must of been scary for you. Hope you get it sorted
You are so right about it being scary, especially as my mother had a minor stroke at my age which could have been due to undiagnosed hypertension, but I’ll have to wait until April for the medical opinion, so watch this space!
