High BP plus bradycardia

Hi All, I’m a newbie here...64 yo with hypertension (family history of cardio probs) and am on 7.5mg Ramipril since last month . This was increased from 2.5, then 5mg since July 2017. I have just had my first ECG since a dizzy spell whilst out walking a few days ago. I’ve been diagnosed with Bradycardia, pulse 55-60bpm...ECG normal.

My GP says just to self monitor my BP and pulse rate, he sees no need for referral to a cardiologist.

Anyone else had a similar experience? Thanks.

Hi

Your slow heart rate - is that at rest? If it is, I'd not be too concerned. My resting rate is around 50bmp and has been more or less since I had my op (I'm 60 btw). It hasn't stopped me doing anything but I do need to be careful standing up too quickly if I've been idle for a while (then I get a bit of transient dizziness). Was it a cold day when you had the dizziness?

Hi stevejb1810, yes, the 55bpm was at rest, actually during the ecg! It’s anywhere between 55-62 at home. And when out with my dog in the country, mild exertion took it to 72. The dizzy spell was a cold day, again out walking and I’d to kneel down or fall over (in the middle of a field😳). That’s what took me to my GP.

Hi

I'm not medically qualified, but its just possible that it was the weather. Very cold weather can cause vasoconstriction. It might be linked to this.

In cold weather I’ve started to suffer “Reynauds’s “ symptoms in fingers...never had that before the Ramipril.

I had always thought it was the beta blockers that caused the Reynauds issues, but maybe it is the Ramipril. Either way, we don't do cold very well

The tip of my right index finger is cold, most of the time. Is that Reynauds? I am not on Ramipril but I am on Bisoprolol. I think I might have had it before I was put on Bisoprolol though.

Hi, my resting heart rate is always in the very low 40s and I am perfectly OK. Better to have a slow heart rate than a high one!

I think that because I had no idea about my low heart rate (never even heard of Bradycardia) I managed to “catastrophise” the situation. Scares the bejeezus out of me.

I've had a low Pulse rate my entire life, low 40's, has dipped to 30's over night, never thought it was a problem but now as I reach my mid 40's I've been told I've got HBP and that I need to take tablets to get that lower. From what I read there is a link between having HBP and Bradycardia but one is the cause of the other and not the reverse! I have always thought that my Bradycardia means I have HBP which is something normal for me? can that be the case?

Hi, I've always had low heart rate & I've never had any problems at all - infact i'm fairly fit & run 3 times a week with no dizziness at all. I've also just been diagnosed with high bp too again with no problems - guess it runs in the family? I wouldn't worry about it. I've been told i may have to take that awful ramipril stuff in the future, but I'm doing my damnedest to avoid that with better diet, lowering salt, & relaxation techniques & it's working!
