My dad is 79 and I'm Perindopril 8mg am. Yesterday his BP was 195/65 then 200/65. We called an ambulance and they did ecg which was normal. He also took a 4mg Perindopril tablet at 5pm to bring it down which it did to 150. He told the ambulance woman and she said that would be ok. Today he saw a GP at his surgery who tested and it was 150 so he didn't change medication and said BP can go up and down. Again this evening it went to around 190 mark. He took an extra Perindopril 4mg to bring it down. He has a metal heart valve for an aortic valve and is on warfarin. INR is stable in range. I will phone his chemist tomorrow for advice , if he can increase Perindopril or not, as he saw GP today who didn't feel he needed to address the high BP. He was recently on nitrofurantoin antibiotic for a urine infection. Any advice?

High BP and perindopril
Perhaps your Dad should see another GP in the practice. If you take along a set of readings to show the spikes as well.He certainly doesn't want spikes like that does he? If you get no joy perhaps a trip to A&E.They certainly took my extremely high bp seriously.I hope you get it sorted soon.
Thanks. Yes, he could see another GP at the surgery.
Well I know from experience that it's a fight to be heard sometimes and I think it's very sensible for your Dad to be concerned. The thing is they don't like to over medicate either do they! In my case I have good bp at home but it can go crazily high in the doctor's and even worse for the cardiologist.I'm having a 24 hour bp monitor in January as they think it's anxiety but want to check to avoid overdosing me.Perhaps the 24 hour monitor would be the way forward for your Dad.
Just wondering what prompted you to take his blood pressure? It is a bit of a tight rope with older people ( I'm 75 btw) between optimum control and over medicating with side effects that that can cause.
Antibiotic may have upset the status quo and may be an idea to get INR checked if, like my OH he's on 8 weekly checks.
Good idea to go armed with list of readings. What is his standing BP like? My OH drops his on standing and that can cause dizziness
