Ramipril 5mg - BP still high

I was prescribed Ramipril 2.5mg on 20th October, it was then increased to 5mg last week, but my BP is going up not down! It’s averaging 150/90 for the last week, but averaged 133/85 before taking it. Anyone else had this experience?

My diet is low salt and low sat fat and always has been. I have recently been diagnosed with RWMA hence the Ramipril.

Hi, I have had a similar experience. My dose was increased in 2.5mg steps from 2.5mg to 10mg (with blood tests in between to check everything was fine). I did notice a jump in my BP when I moved from 5mg to 7.5mg, this settled after about a week. My BP has continued to reduce since it settled and is now around 115/75 from when I started the 10mg dose.

Thank you for replying. I finally managed to talk to a GP at my surgery last night who took the time to explain my echo results to me properly, and how Ramipril works; as you say it’s a bit up and down to start with, but in a week it should start to settle. I’m not the biggest fan of pharmaceutical drugs, but accept they are a necessary evil for me now going forward; it’s taking me a while to process this new twist in my life … super grateful for the support here … thank you so much

Ramipiril is mad , I’m now trying a quarter of a 1.25mg tablet as my usual dose of half a 1.25mg tablet seems to be reacting with apixaban post hip replacement surgery and lowering my BP to 98/62 . Stopped the ramipril for a couple of days and BP went up considerably, seems to be settling down to 120/75 on quarter of a tablet . Thankfully I stop the apical on 25th November ( side effect of lowering BP 🤦🏼)

Thank you for taking the time to reply. I’m not the biggest fan of pharmaceutical drugs so this new path I’m on is a little daunting for me. Did manage to speak to a GP yesterday who took the time to explain how Ramipril works and, as you say, it can be up and down to start with. I’m finding the support here super helpful; just some reassurance I’m not on my own is the best medicine hey? Thank you so much

Following my cardiologist 's advice I started on ramipril 1.25mg and have now worked up to 7.5mg without any great effect on my BP. I'm waiting to talk to my cardiologist again early in the New Year (fingers crossed!) as my GP won't increase the dosage any more.

Yes my BP is creeping up again, going to wait until the pressures of Christmas are over then thinking I might need to speak to my GP about adjusting my dose / medication. I’m learning that it’s a moving, and changing, journey drugs wise!

Don't know if this is any help I am on 1.25 morning and night Couldn't work out why my BP is only normal the day after I've been drinking Then I realized it was because I was having a good night's sleep GP agrees with me that lack of sleep raises your BP x

Wow, thank you for this as I too have noticed my BP is much lower after a few drinks the day before. Trying to do at least three days without drinking, but BP always higher after these days! I don’t sleep well on my no drink days, still wide awake at 2am!!! So pleased you posted this as didn’t want to mention it to my GP as I’ve already had a slap wrist for exceeding the 14 unit limit!

It’s not good if you don’t feel good and can’t function . 👍🏻 individual dependant. 113/69 was yesterdays lowest and felt ok 👊🏻
