I was prescribed Ramipril 2.5mg on 20th October, it was then increased to 5mg last week, but my BP is going up not down! It’s averaging 150/90 for the last week, but averaged 133/85 before taking it. Anyone else had this experience?
My diet is low salt and low sat fat and always has been. I have recently been diagnosed with RWMA hence the Ramipril.

Hi, I have had a similar experience. My dose was increased in 2.5mg steps from 2.5mg to 10mg (with blood tests in between to check everything was fine). I did notice a jump in my BP when I moved from 5mg to 7.5mg, this settled after about a week. My BP has continued to reduce since it settled and is now around 115/75 from when I started the 10mg dose.
Thank you for replying. I finally managed to talk to a GP at my surgery last night who took the time to explain my echo results to me properly, and how Ramipril works; as you say it’s a bit up and down to start with, but in a week it should start to settle. I’m not the biggest fan of pharmaceutical drugs, but accept they are a necessary evil for me now going forward; it’s taking me a while to process this new twist in my life … super grateful for the support here … thank you so much
Ramipiril is mad , I’m now trying a quarter of a 1.25mg tablet as my usual dose of half a 1.25mg tablet seems to be reacting with apixaban post hip replacement surgery and lowering my BP to 98/62 . Stopped the ramipril for a couple of days and BP went up considerably, seems to be settling down to 120/75 on quarter of a tablet . Thankfully I stop the apical on 25th November ( side effect of lowering BP 🤦🏼)
Thank you for taking the time to reply. I’m not the biggest fan of pharmaceutical drugs so this new path I’m on is a little daunting for me. Did manage to speak to a GP yesterday who took the time to explain how Ramipril works and, as you say, it can be up and down to start with. I’m finding the support here super helpful; just some reassurance I’m not on my own is the best medicine hey? Thank you so much
