Hi, not been on for a while, still on Bisoprolol, still feel really tired on it and headaches every morning. Had heart scan and 24 hr monitor but waiting on results. Just so sick of taking these tablets and really want to stop. Been lowered now to lowest dose but still lethargic. Not going to gym, still not allowed alcohol so staying in every weekend, eating and piling on pounds... just had enough of it all.
Had enough of Bisoprolol: Hi, not been... - British Heart Fou...
Had enough of Bisoprolol
Hi Iam on bisoprolol only a Low dosage like you Iam waiting to see cardiologist my ct scan results have come back but my gp won't tell me my
results Iam still working but I had an episode yesterday had to be fetched home Iam so fed up
Oooh, headaches! So far the only medication that gives me headaches is the GTN spray (so I hate using it) but I so feel for you having to cope with those being a side effect of your beta blocker!
I'm on the lowest dose (since late April 2019) and it did take me a while to adjust but the only side effects I experienced were feeling as though I was wading through chest high water whilst encumbered by a very heavy weight belt around my waist, and needing an afternoon kip but still falling asleep by 8:30 or 9pm every night.
I have stuck with the Bisoprolol as the side effects were far outweighed by the immediate positive benefits - stopped the angina in its tracks (mostly, there have been a few episodes but not near as many as before I started the Bisoprolol).
Oh wait, I forgot the 'bonus' weight gain that stubbornly refuses to shift no matter what I do - I'm allowed to walk up to build up to two miles in the morning and two more in the afternoon/evening, and some light (annoyingly light, I miss my rowing machine!) free weights, resistance bands, and no more than five minutes on the half-bike (sits on the floor, is pedals only with adjustable tension and is surprisingly good exercise). I'm in my early-60s but can lose weight easily if I walk, etc, but the beta blocker is making that difficult - and weight gain is one of the side effects of Bisoprolol. I keep to a healthy diet, don't drink at all, yet I gain at least a pound a week being on that light exercise regime, it's honestly driving me slightly mad.
I've read there are alternatives to Bisoprolol - you might want to talk to your GP or cardiac nurse if you've been assigned one to see if you can try one of those whilst awaiting your results.
Bisoprolol made me ill too, my blood pressure dropped, I felt dizzy and spaced out and anxious, so much so I called an ambulance thinking I was having another heart attack. 2 nights in hospital later with constant low blood pressure , which is a good thing I'm told, they took me off it and gave me something else which works better for me. I'm learning that I need to recognise when something is different and report it to my g.p. and I will never just request a repeat prescription again.
I'm hoping I can come off it completely. Just need to keep my fingers crossed. Thanks for replying
If you can’t come off a certain beta blocker ask to change to another. It doesn’t hurt to try. I couldn’t put up with the smallest dose of Bisoprolol so asked GP to change to Atenolol. A lot better 👍 it’s all about quality of life if they can’t cure you.
I didn't take my tablet last night and this morning got up for work no sore head feel ok like normal tbh. I'm going to call gp and tell them i'm coming off it. I've had 7 weeks now with no chat with cardiology and no information from gp as they just keep saying speak to cardiology so had enough of it all now tbh.
There are alternatives to Bisoprolol if it doesn't suit you. It made me depressed. I'm not sure quite why but I was told to taper off Bisoprolol and not just stop it. I switched to Diltiazem and it suits me much better. Of course, your mileage may vary!
Hi, thanks for reply. I called gp this morning so i have to call back. Told them how good i feel this morning not taking it and i want to stop so if they say taper off i will do that rather than stop suddenly. TBH i'd rather have the palpitations than the feeling i get from taking beta blockers.
If you're already on lowest dose, it may not be a problem but I thought I should mention it.
Gp suggests one every second night. I'm going to do half just want off them. Felt so much better today
Hi I only managed one day as BP was way too low, could not even able to walk up the stairs ! GP took me off them tried Solatol (sorry if spelling incorrect ) did exactly the same now on only Apixaban hopefully have a cardiologist appointment in December and really hope I do not have to go back on them !! Hope you get it sorted soon as it’s horrible too feel so bad when it should be making you feel better !
