I have had a bad year. One of the leads of my CRT Pacemaker wasn't as sterile as it should have been and I contracted Sepsis. Drugs failed to work and I had to have open heart surgery in order to have the dirty lead surgically removed. Since the operation I have struggled to balance my drugs so that I can have some sort of life.
I have been prescribed a new drug called Entresto (24mg / 26mg). From reading comments on here I have high hopes for some success.
I just wondering if others have been prescribed this drug and how long was it before they started to feel the benefits.
Sorry to hear you have been through all that. I started on the lowest dose of Entresto , then the middle dose and now on the highest. It had an almost immediate effect on my symptoms and so in my case I feel it is an amazing drug. My EF went up from the low 20s to 40 after having. CRT-D and being on Entresto after no change in the previous year. Clinical trials of the drug were halted as the group taking Entresto improved so much it was felt that the placebo group were being denied this amazing drug. I hope it helps you
Thanks for your very helpful reply. I have now taken the first low dose tab and sitting here like Dr Who waiting to be regenerated. My wife is hoping for David Tennant but I suspect she is going to get a crabbier version of Peter Capaldi !!
Sounds like you’ve had a rough time, so I hope entresto is going to work the magic for you. I started this last March after developing heart failure from cardiomyopathy, initially on your low dose, up to middle dose a few week later and now on full whack. Noticed symptomatic improvement within 2-3 days of starting low dose and quality of life much better than when I was on a ramipril/diuretic cocktail, but no signs of improvement in ejection fraction unfortunately. It also had the rather lovely side effect of making me feel as high as a kite at first (welcome respite!) but beware, this also means you can’t sleep well because you are “buzzing”. That wears off though, now I feel fine and have no problems with it. I’m disappointed that it’s not helping my heart recover (according to echo readings), but delighted to be feeling better despite this - quality of life is crucial. Good luck!
Like you, I was keen to get an echo done to assess progress. My Cardiologist told me not to get hung up on EF as there are other, more important, measurements that are a better assessment of your heart. he didn't go into any more detail and I would still like to have some numbers available so I could assess progress myself.
