Hi all I was ment to be having my ASD closed yesterday with keyhole surgery and after the past few weeks being apprehensive and then geared up and ready it was cancelled a couple of days before hand..no in complete limbo and no idea when I will be taken back in! Has anyone else had this experience?

Hello Mark! Sadly yes! After numerous delays I finally got a date for my bypass. Three days before I went to lunch with my girlfriend and sister at my favourite restaurant (but wine free!). As we were having coffee I got a call and excused myself (recognised number) and when I came back they asked if I was allright as I was somewhat it a state of shock. My operation had been postponed! At that stage I was not really nervous as things had dragged on so long and the symptoms were getting me down. But it is a real curved ball! Unfortunately the issue seems to be the pressure on cardiology departments and a few emergencies really throw a spanner n the works! The further delay was fortunately not too long and all seems to be going well. I hope you get a new date very soon. Cheers, Michael

Thank you yeah I had just got home from work and had parked the car up when as the same as you a number phoned and I knew it was the cardiology team! Totally shocked and disappointed. Wife thought I was joking when I told her...yeah it seems totally stretched and I understand it was unavoidable as another patient need the team for a extensive op the would last all day. Just frustrating and I haven't heard anything since last Friday 🙄

I called yesterday and left a voicemail but nothing back! Will keep on to them though as I don't now want to be a cancellation case...thank you Michael will keep updated 🙏

Often the best person to speak to is the surgeon's secretary. I imagine though it will be short notice - mine was 5 days!

Spoke to the booking officer this morning but he says he has the email about my cancellation last week and I've to speak to my nurse practitioner handling my case as final say is with her. Yeah I know a girl who had her exact same procedure at the same hospital done 2 weeks ago and we only given one days notice! My bag is still packed and ready to go anytime 🤞

Hi Mark. I should have been going in today for my AVR but got the call last Friday postponing. It is indeed a rollercoaster ride. I have been told it will be sometime in November now. I am trying to put it all out of my mind but that’s easier said than done. Keep us posted won’t you and I really hope your wait won’t be long at all. Joan 👍

Hi Joan yeah it's a bit of a nightmare tbh if I had another date to focus on it would be a lot easier but still stuck in limbo. I'm pestering them today to try get an answer either way 🤞Thank you and yes I'll keep everyone updated 🙂

Hey Mark. The postie just brought me my new date. Go in 11th Nov for op next day. No pre op needed thank goodness as it’s a fair few miles from where we live. I am sure you will be all done by then. 👌
