I have had the 24 hour monitor and waiting for results. My heart rate is over 100 if i move around and i get breathless. It then can shoot to 200+ also when i'm resting but at night when i am asleep it's ok. I have lots of strange feelings in my chest. I don't feel well just wondered if anyone has any advice i have been told when i see the doctor that my pulse is regular and its in the normal range most of the time im resting. My bloods were fine ecg shows non specific t wave changes.
thank you

Was it the standard resting ECG which in my personal opinion is of limited value. A 24 hour or, even better, 7 day monitor would be far better to catch these events.
Yes, it monitors your heart for 24 hours with the data being stored for analysis by cardiology at the end of the test. The 7 day is the same just longer. Was your ECG the standard resting on the couch one?
Oops... Just noticed you are waiting for the results of a 24 hour one. Did you have AF whilst it was on? If not then I think a 7 day one is the next step as they need to catch an event.
Hi Shelly. This is exactly what I do. Unfortunately holter monitors didn't pick up too much as our hearts seem to sense when we're wired up and behave. I'm now awaiting having a reveal device being fitted. We just have to keep the faith and hope they eventually find out what's wrong. I unfortunately pass out when mines goes too low and am very symptomatic to drugs. I think I'm heading towards pacemaker reading between the lines
Oh it certainly is. What I find hard to accept is that there's no rush to get to bottom of it. Iv been on this treadmill for 3 months and if it wasn't for rehab nurse pushing for monitoring I don't know where I'd be
I had similar arrhythmia issues (they're all slightly different) after a heart attack.
Damage to the heart tissue often causes problems with the electrical pathways which drive the heart muscles.
You may initially be prescribed drugs to slow the signals to the heart.
I was put on beta blockers and they pretty well fixed the problem.
Beta blockers get a bad press because they can rob you of energy, it's important to adjust the dosage so it only just does the job....I'm on 1.25mg Bisoprolol which is a tiny dose but it does the job and I still have plenty of energy.
Later I developed Atrial Fibrillation, another drug (Flecainide) fixed that, but I'm resigned to being on these meds for good, but I'm fine and have normal quality of life and energy levels.
You might find it takes a while to find something that works for you, but it's important to be proactive (some call it pestering) with the cardiologists and consultants otherwise they think everything's fine when it isn't, there are lots of drugs and procedures out there which will hopefully do the job, be positive and good luck.
Iv already been down that road. Verapramil and ivabradine knocked me silly. Couldn't function at all. They say I'm very symptomatic. They just stopped drugs and left me. I can't get beta blockers as I have asthma.
Same thing happened with me when they put me on Sotalol, it was like a medical cosh and it didn't fix the problem.
I was lucky with the AF nurse I was assigned, she had time to chat and discuss all the options which the consultant didn't, busy I guess. From her experience at the pointy end she made suggestions which eventually worked for me.
In your case I would persist, dosage is very important in these drugs, you might find a lower dose will work and not drain you of energy, but you have to persist otherwise they think the problem is solved.
I suffered tachycardia attacks where my pulse would suddenly go to 150-180 with relatively modest exercise. I also had a low resting pulse (50) so beta blockers were initially ruled out as they would slow it even more, but eventually they suggested I try a tiny dose of Bisoprolol and although my resting heart rate is now about 45, it fixed my tachy attacks with no other side effects.
I have had 24hr + 7day monitors fitted over the years and now have heart reveal device fitted (u can google it) 24hr monitor. as s.one else has written 24hrs is v limited whereas 7day is much better as it will show up problems that perhaps not recorded on 24hr one. The feeling of a sort of chest heaviness + tightness dont always last long wth me but!! Thy are horrible and quite scary. Cardiologist sd it is part of having ectopic/irregular/af heart beat. For me I am feeling better tho struggled at 1st on Bisoporol, didnt think I would tolerate it but, after 4months i think Im better though they did suggest Adizem if I wanted to try another diff tablets. Fast + irregular heart beats are not easy to cope with but, Im sure with the results taken from the monitor they will be able to suggest medication to help - I know a little (as will many on this forum) how you feel. I was told that not many are given 7day monitors b.cause there can be a shortage of them at any one time at the hospital due to length of time when they are lent out for more than a day
