Had a heart attack and stent 8 weeks ago but am doing very well thanks to advice on here.
I am doing level 5 rehab exercises every day and I’m having no physical issues.
My heart rate (measured with Fitbit) varies wildly whilst exercising. Sometimes if I really push myself my heart rate can be measured at 100bpm and other times when I am taking it easy it will say that it is 140+. I’m not overly concerned as I feel very fit and healthy.
My question really is that my resting heart rate measured with my pulse is between 70-80bpm which I believe is high for someone that is pretty fit.
Any opinions would be greatly appreciated as I think I may just be asking for too much too soon.
Thankyou

Most people I know tell me Fitbit are not very reliable when exercising I have IWatch and works fir me. 70-80 may be regarded as high but this all depends on the individual circumstances and what medication taken. As always check with your GP or cardio nurse
I shouldn’t worry too much. Normal is between 60 and 100. I have read some articles suggesting that 50 - 70 is ideal. Fitness can decrease your rate further but I’m not sure this always applies.
If you suffer from anxiety (as I do), this can affect your heart rate in the same way as your blood pressure - ie the more you worry it will be high, the higher it will go.
Maybe worth a quick call with your nurse or GP, or one of the BHF nurses to put your mind at rest.
i have angina and ischaemic heart disease.. lowest HR so far is 38.. did some light walking around my cul de sac today HR reached 120!.. average resting HR is 51/52.. meds include dilitazem 90mg.. isorobide monitrate 120mg and ivabradine 5mg
My husband has a resting heart rate of 80-85. He was told by the cardiologist that it was a normal variable like height or shoe size and there was no evidence that a faster or slower normal heart between 60-100 has any effect on longevity.
my advice is not to push yourself too much; I did and after 12 moths broke the wires enemy chest, ended up with dehiscence and a hernia. However, walking was the best. The more you walk the better you get, but it takes a long long time.
I had my HA 3200 miles into a 4700 mile cycle ride around the coastline of Britain on the 22nd of October 2017. It felt like someone had punched me in the stomach I carried on for another ten miles to a hospital. After numerous checked they said they weren’t going to do anything, I take statins and aspirin now. But they did say I was 2st over weight. How can that be, I’m super fit. So I walk out of hospital and straight into a Slimming World class and they advised that I had been eating crap most of my life. (Like buying a new car and putting old oil and a dirty air filter and wondering why it goes bang ). I did everything they told me to do. In 16 weeks I had lost the 2st and I’ve stayed at my target weight for 115 weeks. Personally I don’t ever look at HA numbers. I know I always eat and drink the right things and still exercise and once a year have a full medical. The doctor told me that I am fitter now than I was in 2004. By the way I carried on the cycle ride 6 weeks after HA and completed the 4700 miles. I also had a hip replacement during the cycle ride. But that’s a different story. I’m 68.
Thankyou to everyone that responded. I feel like the best thing to do is take off the Fitbit! I feel better and stronger than I ever have and eat very healthily now, I’ve lost half a stone and my BMI is perfect. I’m going to listen to my body instead and maybe check back in 6 months to see if anything has changed. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Yes good idea. In my books as long as you are your correct weight and you can feel confident that you are not over burdening your body, and that’s not just your heart. I often say this at SW classes I go to. If you want to convince yourself to loose weight, weigh your self, then subtract the weigh you should be. Then put that amount of weight in a rucksack and carry it around for a week. As you are your correct weight Changeling. Make sure you do some gentle exercise everyday and in sure you will be just fine👍
