Slow heart rate

Hello all ....I've recently been measuring my heart rate and I'm coming up with low rates all the time. From 44 to 60 resting and up 70 after vigorous exercise. Does anyone know if this is "normal" ? I'm worried I may have heart block. Any input welcome. Thanks

Hello Life-at-sea, welcome to the forum.

There's almost no such thing as a "normal" heart rate, elite athletes commonly have a resting heart rate of 30 bpm. A resting heart rate of anything between 60 and 100 is considered OK. A resting rate of under 60 is quite common, providing it does not produce side effects like feeling faint or dizzy.

A rate of 70 bpm immediately after vigorous exercise might be considered quite low. The best advice is that you contact your GP with your concerns so that you can be checked out .

Are you sure the measuring device is working OK. That's the first thing I'd have a look at.

Thanks...I also check manually the old fashioned way , I have heard many devices can be significantly incorrect

In addition to the earlier comments, if you are experiencing any form of dizziness I would also ensure that your GP checks you blood pressure.

Thanks I will.. I also take my pulse manually and it's still comes out slow aswell as using the samsung health app where I can measure with my phone sensor. I remember when I gave birth to a child the nurse commented that my bpm never went over 70 throughout labour but she didnt say it was a bad thing just odd. Maybe it's normal for me.

Thanks....I do get out of breath when I exercise.. wonder if that's because of the low bpm rate

Some medication can cause it. The Consultant put me on 2.5mg Bisoprolol and 50mg x 2 Flecainaide. Had to reduce the Bisoprolol to 1.25 as my HR was going below 50 at night and I was waking feeling breathless and off. I had an AF episode in Sunday, so increase meds, head and neck stiffness, muzzy head, itchy palm and pins n needles 🙄 Reduced them again 🤷🏼‍♀️

Hi... I also get symptoms like you describe..stiff neck, fuzzy head, pins and needles. I'm not on any medication. Just walked for half hour at pace with my dog and my hr is now 53, when I woke up was 45 today... I've never thought about any of this before just becoming aware now ... trying not to worry as could be normal for me..I'm pretty laid back and calm haha

Yea, That's a great heart rate to have. It indicates you are in excellent health and fit. Unless you can say differently. The lower heart rate makes it easier for your heart to operate with it having no 'worries' about being overweight, your lungs being clogged with smoke or taking 'medication' you haven't been prescribed. If all these mentioned add up to you, Great, if not, Oh Heck. You'd best your GP.... Good Luck.
