Feeling Better!

I was diagnosed with moderate Left Ventricular dysfunction, with mitral regurgitation and an EF of 40% this gave me a NYHA or 2/3. I was put on buscipron. ramipril and spironolactine . Last year at my review the cardiologist was pleased and said I was much better. Today I had my review and things are almost back to normal again. I do still have a small area of my Left ventricaul that does't work properly and my valves are a bit leaky, but not to worry about. The consultant said he didn't now the cause of the problem or why it has improved and I don't need to go for 5 years! I am so lucky and so blessed. Obviously he said to ask my GP to send me back if my heart valves start to get worse, that will show as me getting breathless. I am to carry on with the meds but can exercise again as long as I start slowly!

Thanks for posting. Great to hear. My EF is 25% so there’s hope for me yet 🙂

Brilliant news delighted for you. I was diagnosed with an EF of 30% 19 months ago. When I went back for a further echo it was confirmed my EF had gone up to 34% ! I had changed my lifestyle to no alcohol... mainly fish and chicken.. . More exercise... and having natural honey from a local beekeeper

Who knows if any or all of these things have helped.... but great news to know that the heart can regenerate even if just a little 😁 x

If its any encouragement, my EF was 18% when I walked into hospital at the end of last April, 3 weeks ago MRI showed EF was at 44%. Walking, eating well, and cut right back on alcohol. Keep taking the pills!

When I was first diagnosed, I was very frightened and I read all sorts of articles, some of it good and positive some scary. I stopped drinking alcohol during the week and only a small amount, 3 or 4 units at the weekend. I cut down on some of the food I was eating and ate a lot more fruit and veg. My weight dropped from 10 st 10lb to around 9st9lb to 9st 12ab and I took my meds on time! I don't know if any of this helped, but it made me feel a bit more in control. My husband and I used to walk a lot and we still go for walks, but not very far. MY cardiologist said I can slowly go back to what I used to do, but a bad back may stop me going too far. I am aware that I am not out of the woods and never will be 'cured'. I never was a big drinker and don't miss it, in fact I it's good to be able to stop people pestering me to drink more, by saying I have a heart condition!
