Hubby was a lot better yesterday and today. Chest infection confirmed and antibiotics working miracles. My elder son was with me today and he noticed a big change. Hubby was laughing and pulling such expressions when son was taking the mickey out of him. Of course physio came and wore him out as usual, but he recovered a lot quicker. They have a plan to start rehab on Monday, starting every other day to see how it goes. He was zero on ventilator again, and they plan to turn it up a little while doing rehab, but she even said they'll play that by ear, as he did so well today. My son said it's so good to have him back with us and his sense of humour intact.
I'll enjoy my day off tomorrow now. I've taken a chicken breast out of the freezer to make myself a mini roast dinner tomorrow.
Just rang to see how he is, the nurse has nipped for a cuppa so ward manager told him I'm on the phone and how is he. Put 2 thumbs up, and I asked her to tell him I love him, and she said he nodded and mouthed love her💕
As I was putting the phone down she was saying to someone else aw that's so sweet 💗
This is so lovely. You must be relieved to know what the results are now and even more relieved that he is responding to the antibiotics. Such fantastic news and now you can have a much deserved break tomorrow.
Great news I'm so pleased for you and thank you for taking the time to update us once again. Its good that you are taking a little time to look after yourself tomorrow and make a nice meal. Hopefully it wont be long before he gets his strength back if the physios are pleased with him and not too long a wait before he can come home to you xx
Hi Castleview. I've been looking out for your posts and this one is brilliant! Hubby is making such good progress and as I said a week ago, he'll be running around in the spring! It's so lovely that your son was making him smile and it brought tears to my eyes when I read his "I love you" words.
Enjoy your day off tomorrow, knowing he's in good hands and will be even better on Monday when you see him. Give him our best wishes and an ever so gentle hug from us all.
Such a positive that the antibiotics are working and now on correct ones to fight this particular infection. Thank you for taking the time to update us all despite everything you've had going on. So glad to see your post, I too have been looking out to see how you and your hubby are doing, I am relieved and happy he is improving and fighting and getting better. I admire you both. Try to rest tomorrow and enjoy your mini roast dinner Been a long time since I've had roast dinner, was probably Christmas or New Year mmm. Please tell him we're rooting for him and we're rooting for you too. Onwards and upwards from here on in 🤞🙏 x
What excellent news - I always look for your posts. Us physios are like that! I hope you have a lovely day off tomorrow and really enjoy your roast dinner - Yorkshire puds as well? So glad that your son saw a change in him as sometimes people who see patients nearly every day do not always notice the improvements! xx
That's fabulous news! You must be feeling so relieved now, especially when your Son can see such a difference. You enjoy your day off & your roast dinner 😀 xx
This is absolutely wonderful news. Thank you both for being so open and fab and sharing yourselves with us all, and this inspiring and heroic journey. You're a super family and my heart is so glad for you all. May you keep going from strength to strength and be well and happy 😊 XX
Another lovely post with good news: just sorry that hubby seems to be working his way through the entire medical dictionary! His spirits are high and that is hugely down to your encouragement and love. Don’t underestimate the effect you have on him as it really matters. Enjoy lunch on this bright sunny day. x
More good news! You need to have some days off now because you will need your strength when he is discharged. With Dad they initially sent him to another hospital closer to home before sending him home. Take care and enjoy your lunch xx
Because of the chest infection he's on support a few hours a day, but getting less. Hopefully towards the end of the week, but I've been saying that for the last 2 weeks!!
I've also just casually chatted with him and son, that his voice will probably not be as strong and maybe sore and hoarse to start with. I don't want him being disheartened if it's not the same right away x
Great to hear he is improving. Hopefully doing rehab he will make great progress and move closer to coming home. I'm sure he is really looking forward to that. Keep strong and look after yourself. 😀
The journey is slow but this time next year you could both be planning a well earned holiday.
Well done , your love and support along with the medical team have got him this far so good.
I told you my dad was unconscious for 3 months and depended on a life machine at 49 . He went on a long happy journey after that and was spoilt rotten into his 90 s
Medicine and surgery saw him through it but it was the love of family that made the difference.
So pleased to hear he has started to get better again. It must be so lovely for you to walk in the ward and see him awake and back to his normal self to a certain respect. He is certainly building up his strength again by the looks of his physio sessions. Let's hope he goes from Strength to strength now and is back home soon 🙏. Brian
That is so lovely!! I. So pleased for him and also for you. It must be a huge relief. Enjoy your day off today and just rest!! He will be back home before you know it. Life is a funny old thing isn't it!? He is getting stronger each day and that's all that matters. Look after yourself. Xx
'morning Castleview, another brilliant update, aren't the nursing staff just amazing? Have a lovely day and enjoy your meal (with everyone talking about a roast dinner, I'm off to the supermarket for my daily newspaper and a chicken!) 🫂xx
That's lovely, he is well on his way back you It's been a long hard road for you all but light is on the horizon and in a few months summer will be here and you will be able to enjoy it together
Hopefully won't be too long, my hubby did 2 weeks post recover rehab in hospital then was transferred to a rehabilitation centre for 6 weeks then he really wanted to come home so he got a further 6 weeks rehabilitation at home. After speaking to the drs they informed me the maximum rehab recovery happens in the first 8 weeks after that it's very minimal. So things are looking positive within 8 weeks you will see a significant if not full recovery.
Was really looking for an update...all good little victories..like you I cannot wait till that ventilator is out...enjoy your lunch and keep up your strength and positivity..
Another good update. Great that your son can see the change in hubby. Physio sounds like they're very pleased with him. Hope you enjoyed your roast dinner. 😊
Your Husband is one of the strongest men maybe there is so many ups and downs and he keeps getting up
I honestly believe though the love you have for each other is what is pulling him through along with the medical team and you have done so much helping him know how much you love him with his recovery which I am pleased to read is back on track again
I read you could not eat all your roast today but you have eaten some
Keep looking after you to he will be needing you as fit and healthy as you can be when he comes home
I hope this week will bring even more progress in his recovery
It is rare a post gets so many replies as yours do so it shows how many of us are here are supporting you both
Forgive me if this has already been asked but is your hubby aware of how many days ago his op was and how long he was "out" for!? Yours is such a compelling story on this forum!
Yes, he is now. For a few days after he woke we were just saying his op had gone well and he was just waking up. Then a Dr told him the date and time so gradually it sank in. We have said we didn't bank on this did we? He just shakes his head. Now we just say he decided to sleep while he healed and miss a lot of pain.
That's amazing and lovely! Thank you for the quick reply. Take care of yourself. Rest while you can. He will need you big time when he gets home. I remember the triumph when I at last could put my own socks on. Until that time you will be doing it all!
