Heightened anxiety after HF

It’s 3 months now since I was rushed into hospital with myocarditis.

The recovery seems slow, but one of the worst aspects is heightened anxiety.

I know HF would likely make people anxious in terms of worrying about your health, but this feels very ‘physical’, not just psychological. I can feel strong surges of adrenaline at the slightest thing, and feel my heart ‘flush’.I also seem to have very short patience and fly off the handle quickly and easily (not ideal with two young boys).

Could this be something physical (eg due to heart condition or Ramipril)? Or is it just all in my head?

Not sure whether to see my GP for medication or try to find a counsellor. But I’ve got to do something, it’s ruining my life.

Hi

Welcome to the forum. While I have not been through your experience I'm afraid the 'grumpiness' hits us all at some stage. Seems to be a mixture of shock as to what happend, fear for the future and just general tiredness.

I found that rehab worked wonders, dont know if you've been offered it, but if you have please take it. Talking to others, both on here and in rehab also works well. Also talk to your GP and if possible insist on some counselling. BHF nurses may also help.

All I can say that in my case, excercise and talking helped BUT you will still get those dark grumpy days, you just work out how to handle them better and those arround you will also learn the trick of calming you down

Good luck and all the best for the future. Talk to your GP asap
