Hi there. My husband had aorta and valve surgery and suffered a vf cardiac arrest post surgery due to heart block. A permanent pacemaker has been fitted,s not an icd. Does anyone know if the DVLA have a driving ban following cardiac arrest. I cant find anythibg. Only the 1 week pacemaker rule and 6 months icd rule. Thanks in advance

Hi.
As you say the DVLA web site doesn't say anything about post cardiac arrest. My partner had a cardiac arrest late last year and now has an ICD implant. There is clear guidance on this and pacemakers.

I would check with the DVLA direct. As you know if you continue to drive when you should have notified the DVLA you can be fined and your insurance can be void. Best check to be safe. You may find giving the BHF nurse helpline is helpful too.

I had a cardiac arrest in 2010 and haven’t driven since. I am so frightened of having another one and killing somebody the thought just breaks my heart 💔 so I don’t drive anymore but I’m sure they said don’t drive for 6 weeks xx
